Mate it's fantastic. My Dad lives over there and I go a couple of times a year. The Emirates is the better course. Well maintained, good facilities, not too hard/easy.

There's plenty of other things to do as well. Check out the indoor ski slope, it's crazy.

Having said that i'm from the U.K so to me anywhere I can sit outside with a beer after a round of golf is my idea of heaven

I didn't experience anything like that mate. Just the normal no golf shoes rules. It's quite humid so you'll probably want to change your shirt anyway.

The large malls are the places to be. The'yre full of bars and (not surprisingly) that's where the Americans and Brits seem to be.

There's a lot of female action to be had (I have my own story about a British Airways stewardess!) however a lot of them are there to pick up a rich husband.

Get yourself a Ferrari keyring and a fake pair of Gucci sunglasses and you'll be sorted!

Majlis course really is superb and should be in perfect condition at this time of year. The Wadi (the other course at Emirates) has, I think, just re-opened after Faldo's redesign. You should also try to play the Montgomerie - again beautifully looked after and a good all round test. Will be even nicer when they stop doing building work all around it.

The bit about the change of clothes does not reflect my experience - at the Emirates we just rolled off the course on to the terrace for a drink, no problem. As for your last question, I understand that if you go to the major hotels (in particular the Burj al Arab - the one that looks like a sail of a ship) that there are many extremely cute girls but, ahem, the 'green fees' can easily run to $500 or more per round. This is based on hearsay, the golf is based on my own experience!

Villa,

You can't just leave us all hanging like that; we need stewardess details...do tell. Also, the keyring and sunglasses bit was hilarious.

I live in Abu Dhabi and play at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club where I'm a member. I play up in Dubai frequently and would recommed the Emirates Golf Club (Majlis and Wadi). Majlis course is the course where the European Tour holds their annual event. Nice course but not that difficult. The Wadi by Faldo just reopened and to be honest, the Wadi is much nicer and a better test than the Majlis. Al Badia is also very nice. From the blue tees, it's not that difficult but it 's test from the black tees (especially if the wind picks up as their are no protection from the wind). The Dubai Creek is also a nice test...not too long but very tight. For some reason, it plays sneaky long. I've never been able judge the distance correctly everytime I've played there. Arabian Ranches is a very odd course. You don't see any water hazard on the course but it's surrounded by desert (surprise there). It used to be a very punishing course to a point where is almost unfair where you would run out of fairway about 250 yards out from the tee box as the ball would run into the scub. Take note Par 5, 3rd hole. It's a very weird and gimmicky hole. But the scrub/desert has been packed down and plays more like a hard pan now. Still not my favorite. Then there is the Montgermerie...it's a sad little course with gimmicks (the world's largest green and palm in a greenside bunker). Housing comes right up to the fairway on all of the holes...not very picturesque and very artificial. The world's largest green is in a shape of the UAE and the tee box encircles the island green. But the green is so big (a big waste) the club only uses a small part of it now and the most of the other parts of the green is either covered with sand or the grass has been allowed to grow in. Montgomerie is the worst of the lot...did I mention the homes abutting the fairway?

As for nightlife...check out the bar scene at the Buddha Bar the Grovesnor Hotel or Trilogy at Madinat Jumeirah. Trilogy is expensive and crowded but the scene is akin to US or Europe club scene.

As for the dress policy at the Emirates...no tee shirts or jeans in the Spike Bar.

All of this is great info. I will take note of it all. I already paid for green fees for the Emirates and Arabian Ranch. Dubai Creek may be a fun one to go to the next time I am in for some R&R.

We are playing our scramble at the Ranch. A little US Navy tourney set up for us. Thanks for the playing notes on the Ranch. It will help.

As for the nightlife, I can't wait. I need some time to unwind.

I go out to Dubai 2-3 times a year to see friends and play golf, the courses out there are in tip top

condition. The Emirates courses are great, the Wadi is probably a tougher test than the Majlis. The Ranches was qiute tough when i played it las,t 2+ years ago. Although i think they have made it fairer now. The Monty is ok, very open compared to the others, you can take your driver out and have fun. Dubai creek is a great course somthing different on every hole. Nad al Sheba is good for a night round. Nice and cool at night, plus its different playing under floodlights. My favourite is Jaba Ali even thoug its a 9 hole, you play twice off different tees. Night life is cool if you know where to go, normally a good night on somewhere every day of the week. The green fees can be pricey 550-700d $130-170 a round.

Cheers

Ian
