Are new wedges needed too?

I'm a relatively new golfer that got my late start after 46, 2 years ago.

I started with a set of Mizuno MP14's (Rifle Stiff shafts) (freebies from a neighbor) that everyone that I knew said I shouldn't be playing with (too hard too hit they said).

I figured that if they were hard to hit, it was because I didn't know how to swing 'em properly yet. So I muddled through my lessons and disapproving teachers using the MP14's.

I truly loved the feeling when I did make good contact so I was able to resist buying new stuff.

Last month, after playing with a couple of pro's from my club who told me the same thing, that I ought to be playing with cavity backs, I finally broke down and bought a set of Taylor Made OS2's, 3-PW, graphite shafts. You know what? All those guys were right!!!

Much more likely to get a satisfactory hit straight to where I want!

Now my question is ... should I also change my Mizuno MPT wedges (52,56,and 60) with their steel shafts for RAC or RAC OS wedges with graphite shafts?

Are there such things as "game improvement" wedges?

There are cavity back wedges, made by just about every OEM. As far as you possibly keeping the Mizuno's, the only thing I would be worried about tie the weight difference between the graphite in the irons and the steel in the wedges. Your call though. Do you hit the wedges well? Yes- don't change. No- get ride of the steel shafts and get some graphite's installed.

The trouble is that I thought I was hitting the MP14's OK too. It wasn't until I broke down and bought the graphite TM's that I realized what I was missing.

You bring up an interesting point.

I noticed that the wedges sold in retail stores have steel shafts. However, if you order the wedges as part of a graphite irons set, the wedges will come in graphite too. So obviously, graphite is OK.

Does the preponderence of steel wedge shafts in the stores indicate market preferences and / or what experienced golfers really need?

If I have graphite shafts in my irons, will the weight difference of steel shafted wedges cause me to miss some benefit?

Thanks.

My thoughts are to KEEP the Mizuno MP wedges. Those are wonderful wedges, and should work for ANY level player.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
