anyone?

i am starting to look at prospective schools and such for after i graduate, im really not sure what i want to do for sure, maybe law, maybe business, but it got me to thinking and i found some of the golf colleges, and i think that it could be valuble for me and heck if it doesnt work out i can always go to school somewhere else, but hey going to a college where you have class from 8-12 inside and then class/play from 12-dark sounds like fun to me, so i was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with either of these 'schools'

I graduated PGCC in 93. I was in the second class out of that place. It all depends on what you are trying to do. I took it for what it was worth. I met alot of good people, played a ton of golf...turned my golf game from mediocre to someone that can play competitively. I got a job out of there and worked in the golf industry for the past 14 years.

 

If you want to be a club pro or something like that, not a bad idea....but remember this, alot of schools are offering PGM programs, where not only do you get a real degree, but you also get to experience real college. I was lucky in the fact that I went to a normal 4 year college for a year before I went to golf school. So I got to experience it.

 

It is fairly expensive and there are no guarantees. Something that you should look into if you are that interested in being in the golf industry. Myself, I am getting out it.....the long hours, bad pay, disgruntled people, etc drove me out. I am going back to school to finish off my 4 year degree. So I am doing it in reverse. Just make sure that is what you want to do. If you are a good player, you could go to some D1 or D2 school and play all the time there as well.

 

Think it all out, and go over all the aspects. Nowadays the 4 year degree is king. Take it from someone who has been in the business for a long time. The golf business is not all that it is cracked up to be. Alot of people going after fewer and fewer jobs. Have to have some thick skin, and love for what you are doing.

If you want to be a PGA Professional or work in the golf industry i would say the PGM schools are the way to go over the other golf academies. Call me biast since i attend a PGM school. But it is an easy way to get your class A PGA card and have the opportunity to go on great internships and learn alot along the way. You will also get an actual college degree through the PGM program which is something you need to have nowdays in case you every make a carrer change or to get into upper managment almost anywhere.
