Best courses in OKC?

Most would considered Oak Tree Mens the best course in the area. Now called Oak Tree National, a membership there also came with access to the Oak Tree Country Club facilities and courses across the street, but I'm not sure if that is still the case. While the courses are not as as good, Oak Tree CC does have 2 of the finer courses in the state. There are two very fine Maxwell courses in town, Oklahoma City CC and Twin Hills CC. Personally I prefer OCGCC, It seems to be a very underrated club in the area. The other big CC in the area is Gaillardia, Which opened with a lot of fanfare in the late 90's with a Shells match between Couples and Mickelson.

Oak Tree National
One of Pete Dye's toughest for sure.

I like OKcGC, The Greens, Quail Creek and for just a round with the buddies Fairfax.

OKC area clubs

OKC G&CC- Best location, nice old clubhouse, who's who of OKC membership. Small golf course -well maintained (even by CC standards)

Oak Tree National- North Edmond (25 miles from Downtown OKC) Challenging golf course, Golf only club, no pool tennis ect. Kids cannot play golf at all, wife will need her own membership to play.

Oak Tree CC- Neighbors to Oak Tree National, 36 holes, Club Corp club, Half Olympic size pool, indoor tennis, family centered club.

other to consider

Quail Creek

Twin Hills

also Gailarida but i'm not a fan.

The Greens is an entry level club, don't even look unless you cant afford any of the above.

Do you know where you might be living? OKC is pretty spread out. If you live on the north side Oak Tree might be an option. There are a couple of good public courses in Edmond as well, I prefer Kickingbird the best. Not a fan of Coffee Creek.

I've played OKCG&CC and loved it. Old money...who's who in OKC....etc. Also know people who are at Twin Hills and Quail Creek who enjoy those respective courses. I've played the Greens 4-5 times and it is ok. Some holes I really like and others I'm not a big fan of.

If you live south towards Moore or Norman, check out Belmar, The Trails and OU Jimmie Austin Golf Club. Belmar and the Trails are private and I prefer The Trails. Jimmie has memberships but anyone can play.

I'll jump in and throw votes behind some of the above private courses. OKC G&CC, Oak Tree National, Twin, etc. Now, some of this have steep initiation fees as well. I play out of Rose Creek in the south west part of Edmond and I would say it is probably the best value for a private club in the city.

As others mentioned, it would help if we knew what part of town you will likely be living in in order to make better recommendations.

Public courses are found across the city as well. I grew up Playing Earlywine in south OKC but would probably rate Hefner as the top muni in OKC.

Thank you all for the suggestions and recommendations. I don't know where I'll live (I'm in early stages) but I will update when I know.

What type of prices are we talking in OKC? One of the major appeals is the cost of living there, I'm wondering if golf follows that same standard.

I can't comment about OKC/Twin/National specifically but I think some of the bug names can get pricey. I play at Rose Creek and I think initiation is running $750-1000 with monthly golf dues for a single at $325/mo with no food/bev minimum. last time I checked couple membership was 350 and 375 for family. Course is links style and often fairly windy. Plenty of obstacles in all the areas you'd like to hit off the tee box, lay up, etc.
If you come into town, message me and I'll make sure they get you a tee time to see the course if you are interested.

OKC could be anywhere from 25-50k up front, and around 500/month. Its a purely market driven equity club, you pay whatever you negotiate with the member who wants to sell.

Oak Tree National next highest around 15-25k 500/month

Quail, gailardia, twin hills and OTCC should all be around 10-15K and 350-450/month

All these initiation estimates would be the highest you could expect to pay at these clubs, at any given time some of them may be running reduced or no initiation if they are in need of members.

  • 3 years later...

All of the information in the thread still holds. Only changes are that Quail Creek just completed a reno (2018) adding new green complexes (with ultra dwarf Bermuda) and white sand. OKCG&CC is currently undergoing a 9 million dollar reno and will be closed all summer.

The Greens CC also swapped out their greens to ultra dwarf Bermuda in 2017. They recently remodeled their restaurant as well. It’s still not as nice as the big boy CC’s and has a lot of members but it is a nice little club.

These clubs that swapped out their greens have to cover the greens when it gets too cold. Some days in the winter that are 60 degrees but will have a night time low in the 30s are unavailable for play bc the covers have to be on.

Coffee Creek closed in Edmond and Fairfax was bought out and is now The Golf Club of Edmond - it is public and a good course.

Jimmie Austin (University of Oklahoma golf course) in Norman was recently remodeled as well. Haven’t played it post reno but looks nice.

Okc muni’s still offer great value and are nice courses. Can be packed on the weekends though. Lincoln Park has a new club house that is super nice.
