Hogan PC question

I've finally gotten my game into shape this year (took two months) and I'm ready to bag my PCs for the first time. I love the look of the clubs at address, except for the sand wedge. Is it just me or does it have a weird look to the shape of the head? Also, I'd like to know how it plays if anyone can help? Is it as pure and reliable as the rest of the set? I guess the shape just has me doubting it. Thanks.

Prut, I never liked the look of the SW either. I really don't bag it, it's more of a final piece to the puzzle to me. Find a different SW that looks good to you at address both in the sand and in the grass. Perfection is almost impossible to obtain, even for Hogan irons!

Agree with you both - it's a strange looking beast. I much prefer one of Hogan's Special wedges - both the chromed steel and the BeCu versions. As far as I know, there wasn't a matching SI for the earlier Apex II and the later Redline SI was a dead ringer for their old school Special. The rest of the PC set is great - so I don't know what they were thinking of.

The sand wedge I have in my PC set is a Hogan special W grind. Looks and feels great!

I'm currently having a jolly good time with a set of later model hogan directors, 3-E. One of the best traits of these irons is that all the heads are the same size and shape - where most models have a curved top line from the 8 iron upto the wedge, these do not.
It just suits my eye. Normal wedges look like shovels now.

Cracks me up PD.

One thing I hate are iron sets where they keep that same square shape all the way to PW. I want my wedge to look like a beautifully chromed fry pan.

Amazing how sensitive us retro golfers all are to the appearance of clubs at address. Was looking at a member's Golden Rams, and passed because I didn't like how they looked at address.

I'm loving my Apex PC's but I haven't yet found a SW...I don't have the matching one...I did just buy a second Equalizer and had it bent (one at 49*, the other to 52*).

A Hogan BeCu Special SI is a nice complement to a bag of PCs and the 50-55 gap is manageable.

Have some RH Hogan clubs-Ben Hogan 1+ Round Soles, and a set of RH Ben Hogan Edges- 2-S)

But Apex PCs, like most Ben Hogan models in their heyday, were RH only.
