Upgrading from Golflogix GPS-8

I have had the original Golflogix GPS-8 and it is time to upgrade. I have been looking through past posts, but am lost.

 

I have always liked the golflogix unit because it is uncomplicated. It auto advances holes, so I only have to glance at it. It has some hazards marked, but I don't have to mess with cross hairs and pushing buttons. I won't get a unit that only has front, center and back of the green, though. The fact that my current unit uses AA batteries is a plus, but not a deal killer. I'd like to avoid another subscription, if possible. Being able to add points to a course is nice, but not essential. I recount my stats at the end of the round, so I don't need that.

 

I am trying to decide.

1. Do I get a new handheld unit? Which one? skycaddie, golfbuddy, garmin.

2. A friend has golfshot on his iphone, but the reviews are mixed. I always enjoyed putting my phone away for the rounds, so I'm not sure I want an app instead of a separate unit. Also, he is always the last to hit from the tee box, because he is still busy entering the stats from the last hole. That would drive me crazy.

3. I am unsure if I would like the watch kind. I rarely wear a watch. It would be nice to always be on me, but I'm not sure I will like wearing it.
