Apex 73? Specs

Bought a set, 2-9, E was missing of Hogan Apex irons. Believe they are 73'? What are lofts on the set? Can't seem to find the info.

 

Not sure of flex, apex bands are worn. They are even SOFTER then my Apex Plus were. Great great great feeling iron! Found them very easy to hit as well. These are going in the bag!

I believe the lofts are 19* 2, 23 3, 27 4, 30 5, 34 6, 37 7, 42 8, 45 9, and 51 equalizer. At least thats what my set measures out to and seems to be near standard for clubs of the day. Mine have apex 3 shafts which are from what ive read a flex in between a true temper dg r300 and s300. They are also an inch or so shorter than standard length clubs of today but normal length for their time. Fantastic irons that will never leave my posession and i would argue they are the best ive ever played.

Didn't you just get a set of new Hogan FT15 irons? How do you like them compared to Hogan Apex 73?

 

I hit these things sweet. Need to figure out my set. Think I am gonna go driver, 4 wood, 7 wood, 3-9 apex 73, Hogan Becu SI 52/56/60, putter.

You never wondered why the '73 Ben Hogan Apex irons have such a loyal and devoted following?

 

This was the only set I knew one Hoganista to have played for over 40 years.

Yes I did. The 73s are a little more stingy on a miss hit and play maybe a club shorter most likely due to shaft length. My 73s are also a degree or two flatter by my eye. I dont have a way to measure lie angle as accurately as i can measure loft but visually they are flatter and the old sharpie line on a ball trick backs that up. No biggie for me just takes a better swing to maximize results. Ive also never committed totally to the 73s due to playing other irons and now committing to the 15s, but i definitely could.

So looks like they are not quite 1 club weaker in loft. I think my gaps should be okay. Looking forward to putting them in play tomorrow!

Can anyone help me identify the shafts in them? I know they are APEX AMF but can't make out the flex. Does anyone know the step patterns and measurements so I can figure that out?

serial number may tell you. can you read the ferrule stamping?

then i believe you have stiff. the 4 in the serial no denotes flex and the 1 a d1 sw

Thanks. So rest of serial number is as follows?

 

C68421

 

C = March

6 = 1966

8 = apex model

4 = stiff flex

1 = d1 swing weight

 

So it would appear these are Apex 75' model with chrome back?

Played first round with these. Had 3-9 in bag. WOW they are sweet! Best league round of year. Irons are fantastic
