need help with cheap gps selection

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a Bushnell 450 Yardage pro, which was not really designed for golf but I have been using as best as I can. I cannot seem to get pins to read now, but can get trees and things like that (or people) on or near the greens. I am not a good golfer, but like to know the yardage so I can try to select the correct club.

I am looking for an inexpensive GPS hand-held unit that will have automatically go to the next hole when I finish a hole, but will also not lose the hole if I hit in the wrong fairway. I understand that I need to work on my driver so I don't do that, and plan on doing so. But is there a unit which does not lose the hole you are on if you don't go in the correct fairway?

Money is an object, so looking for something that is hopefully not expensive. I don't have a smartphone (yes, there is one of us left), so can't go that route. Just want something simple that shows distance to center of the green. Any extras would be great but don't have to have them.

Thanks, and may God bless your any help you can provide.

I have been very happy with my Bushnell Neo Ghost. I believe they can be had for less than 100 bills.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell me how the units respond to being in the wrong fairway (not saying you guys are like me and do that, just asking). I am concerned that if I am on #3 for instance, and hit the ball into #4's fairway that it might tell me the distance to the #4 green.

I have a Bushnell Neo Xs GPS watch. I have been over in other Fairways occasionally and never has it been a problem. It has always stayed on the whole I am playing, ( even though I didn't, lol). On occasion, for some reason, it does not switch over to the next hole after I finished putting out, but it is a simple push of the advancement button and you're on to the next hole. This I would consider insignificant, and probably not a rarity amongst all GPS units. Like I said I own the Bushnell brand, but I am sure the Garmin are very nice units to but I can't speak from the experience of owning one. The ease of use of a watch, to me, is the best asset of all, it is simple to look at your wrist and be ready to hit. I have always thought about getting a rangefinder but I would probably lose it if it weren't tied to my wrist, LOL. The watch style is so simple.!

I'm going to add to the OP's original question. Do any of these less expensive models come with:

1- no membership or download fees

2- distance to front/back of greens and hazards on holes

Thanks

No fees on the ones mentioned.

S1 doesn't do hazards but the others do.

I found I didn't like pressing buttons or moving the screen I just wanted a quick number.

Good luck!

I only occasionally use other functions besides Center of green and front of green. The other functions I occasionally use are driver distance measurements and Fairway & Greene hazards. They are relatively easy to access on my Neo XS GPS watch.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
