Will Work for Golf

Hello to All,

Random question of the day. How would I go about finding work in the golf business? I played in college and upon graduation decided against pursuing a career on the course and went for something in the office. I have over six years experience in retail golf sales and over two years experience in outside sales. I would imagine that the natural progression for me would be to a manufactures rep. Although finding work in this industry has become a daunting task. I have met with some local reps (Minneapolis) in hope that they would have some hidden knowledge that could help me land a position, but they have all informed me that they "fell into their position".

Does anyone have any ideas that could help me out? I am extremely passionate about the game and I feel/have been told that I posses the necessary skill set to become successful in the industry. Any advise would help.

I would try the employment page on pga.com. Also, a few companies (cobra, Taylor Made, Nike) hire help for demo days. A lot easier to get one of those jobs and fall into a full time job. Good luck.

way back when... there use to be a few shows. One in Atlanta and the NSGA in chicago. keep in mind that there are multiple areas of golf from different vendors, so perhaps you could get something say with a shoe company than move to clubs then jump to a pure golf play. So go to all of them and meet some folks and over time you might be able to leverage that and get your name out down the road. Get some biz cards for yourself, bring some resumes, etc... good luck!

Thanks for the advise. I worked as a "demo tech" last year for Adams and I have to say the experience was interesting to say the least. I am tempted to travel to Orlando next year to "press the flesh" and network. I agree w/ thenextnumber1 Tour Van would be a great experience for a guy my age. Friend of a Friend works for TM and he loves the lifestyle.
