Question About Extending A Putter and Possible Counterbalancing

My putter is 34" and my ideal putter length is 34.25". If it is not an option to purchase a 34.25" putter, I am aware that it is better to cut down a 35" putter to 34.25" rather than add 0.25" to a putter that is 34".

For years my fitter has never made a mistake but he cut 1" off a 35 inch putter for me rather than cut 0.75" off. It was an honest mistake and his track record has been very good so I'm not going to hold it against him but it's kind of annoying.

My question is, if I add 0.25" to this putter, will I end up counterbalancing the putter? I am also aware that much more shaft than just a quarter inch will have to be put into the shaft when adding the quarter inch.

I would also rather not enter the realm of lead tape to balance it out.

I'm very conscious of the swing weight and I don't want to change it but will that inevitably change as there is additional material being added to the top of the shaft?

From my experience, it won't be a substantial difference but the putter head will feel slightly heavier if the weight isn't balanced somewhere else on the putter after you have extended it.
