Scored a set of 99 apex

Decided to pull the trigger on a set of 99 apex. All I can say is wow. I've got two rounds under my belt with them and they are staying in the bag. They are a full club shorter for me but that's why you get 14 clubs right? I'm about a 13-15 handicap but that is due to 40 plus putts a round and hitting three from the tee a few times a round. My two favorite clubs out of this set are the 3 iron and the equalizer. The 3 iron from the fairway on par 5s is truly amazing. As for the E, I use it from 120 and in. I use it for half shots, chips, everything. I usually live with my 52 and 60 wedges but this E has unbelievable distance control and can stop on a dime, even from 60 yards out. I wish I switched a long time ago.

Welcome Mr. Putt. '99 Hogan Apex's? 17 year old irons? How can they possibly be relevant?

 

They are a joy to play aren't they. Find that with a well struck shot, they're longer than my more modern (stronger lofted) CB irons. Requires an adjustment with distance management when playing the 99's. The E wedge, point and shoot. FYI, now need to find a nice Hogan SI to complete the set. A excellent SW.

 

Another Hoganista in the making. Careful Mr. Putt, there are other Hogans that may tempt your eye and game. Its a slippery slope. Post a pic please. We like pics around here. My antiquated set of Apex's.

Congrats on the great clubs you've picked up. I currently play a set of hogan round sole irons 2-e. I'm absolutely in love with the equalizer as well. I'm a little shorter with it then you (80 and in) but it is such a versatile club. Haven't used any other wedge for the last 3 rounds. Seems like I cant hit a bad shot with it. Anyway, enjoy your new set!

Welcome to the '99 Hogan Apex blade club! These are some of the best forged blades produced, IMO. Easier to hit than most forged blades, great feedback, larger sweetspot than most blades (but still have to put a good swing on the clubs), and still relevant compared to today's irons. Maybe the loss of distance is the difference between standard lofts from 1999 compared to today. I game these and am looking for a backup set. I have mine shafted with Nippon Modus Tour 120 stiff shafts. I absolutely love these and don't see them being replaced anytime in the future until the grooves wear completely off. That's where the prospective backup set comes into play. :D

Here is a quick pic of the setup. I'm contemplating putting in rifle 6.5 shafts. It is what I've been fitted for and what I've played in my last few sets of clubs. The apex 4 shafts just don't quite have the launch I am looking for. Has anyone played the 6.5 shafts in these blades? Would I be doing a disservice to them? I also ordered a driver, 4, and 5 wood of the old hogans. Can't wait for them to show up. I'll gladly give up some yards off the tee if it keeps 3-4 drives a round from being lost in the AZ desert...

I need to get mine reshafted. I already had the apex 5s pulled out of the lower half. My set is 2-E and was a great score in the bargin bin of a local secondhand sporting goods store. I'm putting C Tapers in mine...if you or anyone else want the Apex 5s out of these, just PM and we can work something out.

I should've bought a set of the FTX rather than buying all the Apex Plus I have individually...(I was essentially trying to build a set of FTX, before I knew they existed.)

 

As for showing off... Nah, not really. I just love blades and 2 irons. I guess the more pictures I put out of the two, the more people that maybe I can get hooked.
