When is a Junior no longer a Junior?

I am looking for advice in relation to the transition from boys junior golf clubs to adult equipment. It seems that there are many choices for age groups up to 12 years old or in essence 57" to 60" tall. Ping, Callaway and of course US Kids seem to be top choices.

What about the period between 13 to 17-18 or 60" to 67"? The easy part is getting the length correct. There are plenty of guides to measure height and wrist to floor.

The hard part seems to be the shaft. Flex and material. I have been told to put him in Ladies Flex, Senior Flex, Adult Graphite Regular, and so on. The largest size US Kids clubs have steel shafts and are to be 6% lighter than Adult clubs.

I know there are some excellent junior golfers who transition into adult equipment early, but what is the best direction for the your male golfer, again from 13 to 17-18?

in other words, somebody more than 5 feet tall but not yet adult size. I am not sure what "adult" size is but I think I read somewhere that a standard lie/loft adult set is supposed to cover off "ordinary" builds between 5'' 7'' and 6' 1".

 

the Nicklaus varsity set is the only one I am aware of ; other manufacturers may offer something similar but I doubt it.

 

website says the club heads are "full" size but with appropriate shaft length and flex; driver head is 460 cc and driver shaft is 43.5", for example.

The exact same clubs you or I would use. maybe get them a degree or two flat, and a half inch under. get his/her swing speed measured, and most likely go to a regualr flex to begin with. I think I switched to stiff flex at age 14.

After I grew out of junior clubs, I played a set of lady's clubs for a few years. Then they were too short and the shafts too soft, so I went to the normal length Clevelands I have now.

i went from playing juniors at age 12 to womens at 13 and by the time i was 15 i was into mens stiff because of when i actually grew. so i would say just base it around that and theres not to much you can do about when it happens.

1 thing u hav to watch is u can rung a swing with clubs to heavy devolping a flat overswing which is hard to fix in later years
