Steep vs. Sweeping Swing Planes

I was just wondering which of these two swing planes is favored. I know that a sweeping plane is better for the driver and 3 wood but you can generate more spin with your short irons with a steep swing plane.

 

Second, how do you go about making these swings? I am pretty sure I know but I just thought i'd double check. For a steeper swing plane, at the top of the backswing your hands should be pretty high and for a sweeping swing plane you should take the club back on a flatter plane meaning that the hands would be lower.

 

Thridly, how will your divots vary with these two swings? I am pretty sure that I know this too but I would like to double check again. With the steeper swing plane you will defidently have a divot and the diggers usually come from this category. With the sweeping plane you should have hardly no divot because the club should just graze the grass which is where the sweeping part comes in.

There is only one swing plane and it is established by the club and hands, ball location (ie how far away from you the ball is) changes the angle of this plane...the divot will be deeper for a wedge then a driver..but im guessing you already knew that

I swing both, and understand neither. I think the divot depends more on the contact you make than the swing plane, the club has to level out and start going up at some point. I see bigger divots with my low irons and wedges then I get with my mid irons but I swing those the same. I swing all my fairway woods on a much flatter plane to maximize the consistency I get at impact.

The divot is a result of a downward and outward force until it reaches the lowest point of travel, when the club is perpendicular to the ground. the angle of this plane changes when the ball location changes i.e. how far away you are from the ball. "No Plane is technically too flat or too steep unless it allows the Heel or the Toe to touch the ground before separation."

If the deep divot is not a result of hitting a fat shot, its possible you may have too much shaft lean
