Restoration Project

So my project to put together a tribute set to Seve has now turned into a hobby and passion, restoring old clubs and hopefully being able to play them. I found a few old sets in neighbors garages, storage units and attics. These will be my first ones to work on. I need your help, books or websites that you might have used to learn to restore shafts and clubheads as well as club assembly, etc. Here are some pictures of my retoration project including my Seve Set, Slazenger blades. It truly is fascinating researching the history of each club, materials used, assembly, etc. Otherwise I would never have known who Irving King was! Glad I found your posts and forum.

Thanks! I just picked up a copy on Amazon for a couple of bucks, that will help.

 

My first question to those who like to restore and actually play their clubs... To re-grip or not to re-grip? I say Regrip, to enjoy those clubs outside, I am going to spend many hours in my garage scrubbing and fixing, so why not regrip with a new, tacky grip?

Have you guys find any old looking grips that might go well with older clubs? On the cheaper side of course...

Absolutely change out the grips if you're planning on playing them. EBay can be a great source for grip deals. Period correct offerings can be difficult to locate. The basic black rubber wrap style (GP, Lamkin, Royal) are tacky, inexpensive, and have the right look

Where are you based out off? Are you gonna be taking on customers or still in hobby mode? When I complete my set of 67 Wilson Dyna Powers I would like to get them polished I guess? Idk not show room quality but in very good players quality I guess.

Florida. Hobby mode for sure. Once I feel confident, I am sure I will help out friends and family... thats how far I will go hopefully. I just bought a used bench grinder, I am going to switch the weels for polishing wheels instead. I will post results!

That's awesome goodluck in your endeavor! Ik I want to get into refurbing my own stuff. I know polishing is a 3 step process.
