Anyone played Fallen Oak?

I am looking forward to playing Fallen Oak in Saucier, Mississippi, next week. This is a new Fazio course that has only been open for about 6 months. Has anyone played the course yet? If so, does it live up to all the hype?

I have played it three times..the last being with Ben bradbury from Studio B @ Bettinardi putters (aka..Primetimer06 if you wanna give him a shout for his review as well).

Fallen Oak is NO Shadow Creek, but really good for a southern course...especially in our area. I work at the Beau Rivage and have played both FO and Shadow Creek. The rates are $250 to $350 (weekends), not including your caddie fees, and tipping the 10+ people waiting on you non-stop all day. Condition wise..its the best we have in the area and by far the best service. The layout is just OK...by far my least favorite of all the Fazio courses I have played. Not too much of a challenge from the up tees, but from the tips at 7500+ its alot of golf. Oh yea, and do your self a favor and stay out of the bunkers!! The greens stimp out at 11 or so..not too fast, but pretty speedy for down here. Last I heard they spent $36 million building it and then another $10 million re-planting the trees after the hurricane. They were days away opening when Katrina came through and lost most of the trees due to high winds. Overall, I would say it is worth playing once and for the service you get it maybe worth the high price for our area...have a great day and enjoy the HEAT..haha

Dont forget to try the Bloody Mary's at the bar in the clubhouse....If you like spicy drinks, this will be one of your favorites. They marinate peppers and spices in a jug of top shelf vodka. The flavor is nothing other than true "SOUTH".

"Just getting fully recovered. I was blown away by the service at Fallen Oak. We flew in on a private plane and a limo picked us up and brought us to the course where the head pro and caddy master were waiting for us at the entrance. From that point on, I am not sure I did anything other than take a sip of my cold beer and hit 81 golf shots. I have played a lot of really nice tracks and the service at this place was at the top of the list. As for the course, I have to agree that the layout is not something that blew me away, but I will remember this track for a long time. I was a little disappointed that the greens had been punched about 10 days ago, but I still had a wonderful time. And did I mention how great the service was? All in all, a fabulous experience that I would certainly recommend to anyone that is in the area."

banistr -- thanks for the review. We have a group of 16 from the Monroe, LA area headed down to play in the Coast Open next weekend (one round each at The Preserve, The Oaks and The Bridges). Instead of a practice round at one of the tournament courses, one guy in our group got us a 'comped' round at Fallen Oak so we figured we couldn't pass up the chance to play. It sounds like the round might be free, but it will still cost a chunk of change for all the tipping which, as long as they make you feel welcome, is fine by me.

I know the Beau Rivage is an MGM property . . . if they have the same Bloody Mary recipe that I had at the Bellagio earlier this year . . . the one that gives off that slow but persistent burn . . . I'll be all over that.

yeah when i was down there i got the chance to play both the Oaks and The Preserve and they were both nice courses. The Oaks was obviously better which probably had a lot to do with the service but it has some sporty little holes and so does the Preserve. go out and enjoy yourself and good luck in the tournament next weekend!
