Nikon CoolShot 20 or Precision Pro NX7 for HS kids

Son (10th) and daughter (11th) both play HS golf. Both have been using Bushnell Neo XS past 2 years. My daughter is asking for a range finder for Christmas and have narrowed it down to the 2 units noted in title.Might as well buy one for each child. Both seem to have minor issues; Nikon - slow to respond on long distances; NX7 - difficulty finding flag when a hill is in front. Both are in my budget having to buy 2. Suggestions of which one to go with greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nelson

I had the Nikon and replaced it with the Bushnell V4. The Nikon was absolutely fine up to about 175-180 yards. After that is was very slow and difficult to get a reading. Under those yardage’s its as good as anything out there. With the Bushnell any reading is easy and virtually instant. If you could find a deal on a V4 it will be all your kids would ever need. Keep your eyes open during all the upcoming sales.

I would go with the NX7.

Really.... how often is a hill going to be blocking the flag enough to mess up getting an accurate reading. I have the NX7 and my home course is very hilly. I have never had a problem not being able to get a reading.

I have been using the Nikon for over a year, and haven't really noticed any delays. No one has ever told me I needed to hurry up while I was checking a distance.

I've had the Nikon for going on 3 years now and have no problems with it getting distances. One thing I would like to mention that nobody has yet is the size. I'm not sure of the Precision Pro, but the Nikon is a small unit and may be easier to handle, depending on your kid's hand sizes. I actually like the very compact size and though I have large hands, have no problems with the unit at all.

 

Either one you pick, right on for supporting your children's golf games! The time and support you give them now will surely pay dividends in their lives as they become adults.

Yes - size is an important consideration. The main reason I originally purchased the Nikon was so I could keep it in my pocket. When I got my V4 compactness was also considered. You keep the laser in your pocket you wont lose it. I sold a friend my Nikon and a month later he lost it.
