How much to get into a PGM program?

I wasn't the greatest student in the world, rather lazy and not motivated because I felt most of it was not useful material. I had a 2.9 or 3.0 GPA, and my SAT scores the first time were 540 reading, 560 writing, and 580 math. I am about a 5 handicap.

 

Do I have a chance? If so, which ones?

You could probably get into Ferris State

Ferris from what I understand is somewhat selective depending on how many kids are trying to get in. I got in right after I applied with a similar GPA although it was above 3.0, my ACT was pretty high but I dont know how good those SAT scores are, and my handicap was plus. I got into PSU as well but decided on Ferris. I'd say apply early and even if you dont get into PGM they'll let you in Pre-PGM.

You have to remember that you have to get into the school first, and then apply to the program, at least that was how it was when i applied to Methodist University, Arizona State, and Clemson. I know that Methodist, coastal carolina, eastern kentucky, smaller schools are easier to get into, easier than a Florida State or Clemson. As far as cost goes, cheaper if you stay in state, and if you stay public. I chose Methodist because of it's prowess, but it is not cheap. Make sure you do some research on the programs and the degree you get, at clemson it is Leisure Studies, ASU is Agribusiness, MethU is either business, marketing, or accounting. Just do your research, email program recruiters or directors, and find the right school. Just pm if you have any questions bud.

You could probably get into Ferris State, ASU, UNLV, Miss State, University of Nebraska, EKU know has pgm programbut the bigger schools like PSU, FSU, and Clemson might be tough. Just apply u never know what will happen but everyone knows the best pgm program in the country is PSU!!! :)

1) What are some of the more cheaper schools? I mean in terms of price, not quality. I'm an out of state student who's really strapped for cash. I've seen different prices at different sites. Ferris State sent me something saying that it's c27,000 a year for out of state. That seems like so much.

 

2) Do these schools accept a 2 and 2 from a Community College? I was thinking of attending a top community college around the area, and then going to a university for the last two years. (maybe Monroe Community College to Penn State, something like that) MCC offers 9 golf management classes. This would help with the cost tremendously.

Come to Arizona State. Apparantly we have a good PGM program. Just get in(its not hard) then you go into PGM once your here. I do believe its on one of the secondary asu campus though.

1) if you're going out of state it's going to be expensive, i'd say 20,000 and up. I think ASU was around 20,000 when i applied there because i was out of state, and it is true that the PGM program is on the polytech campus, not the main campus. I know Clemson is expensive out of state, and Methodist is around 28,000 a year, i'm not sure about the other schools since i wasn't interested in going, but i think you can find a lot of that info at each of the schools websites.

 

2) No, you can't do 2 at community and 2 at a PGM school, doesn't work that way. However, if you wanted to you could go to any college and just complete the PGA books on your own, you just have to get a job under a Class A professional and pass your Playing Ability Test. Also, if you want to play golf in college make sure you check out which schools allow you to play on the team and do PGM, a lot of schools don't allow it.
