Macgregor Response 1986 head cover?

I'm wondering if anyone can point me to a head cover that would fit a 1986 Macgregor Response putter, (i.e. Jack Nicklaus' Masters putter). It's an anser style putter but the head is really big. I've tried to find a head cover for it on ebay but it's really hard to tell which ones are big enough. There are some Macgregor Response brand head covers on there but I think those are for a more recent model that has a smaller head. If anyone can tell me a specific head cover they know would fit a 1986 Macgregor Response putter I'd appreciate it. I don't care what brand it is as long as it fits.

I actually did use a tube sock on one of those.

 

MacGregor never made any dedicated covers for them. I don't think anyone was doing that in 1986. Of course generic putter covers were available then, but nothing that big.

 

Another thing I used was an old knit fairway wood cover complete with pom pom. Most people that had those putters didn't use anything, which you can easily see if you ever run across a used one. Most of them look as though someone took an ice pick to that soft aluminum clubhead. Just like you see with those soft brass Bullseyes.

 

It shouldn't come as any surprise that the Response didn't last too long with me. The face was too deep. But I still have a couple of them in my hoard...err...collection.

I'd rather not have to special order a cover. Too expensive.

Haha, that's what I'm currently using for it. I guess it'll do until I run across something better.

He is active on twitter and still making, designing putters

There's an old thread where several members make their own headcovers. They do pretty nice work.
