with a scholorship

To start off, I am a freshman at UC Riverside. I was a walk on, so i did not recieve any money. Thus far in the season, I have a scoring average of 72.78 through 3 tournaments. I talked to my coach about a scholorship next school year, and he said he will give me tuition only scholorship. I said ok, and went on my way. The problem is, I feel like I am a better player than tuition only scholorship. I would be recieving the least amount of money on the team, and I am currently #2. It is not a fluke I have been playing this well either, I just did not get great exposure from junior tournaments, because my parents could not afford too many. What should I do? Should I be happy with the tuition only, or try to get more from other schools? Any advice/help would greatly be appreciated.

well maybe academics count, its spelt scholArship.

seriously though if you think that you deserve more of a scholarship you should talk to your coach about getting a larger scholarship and have your plan for approaching it thought out

The fact that DI teams only get 4.5 per year makes the fact that he told you that you could have tuition pretty good. If I was you I would stay with that scholarship. If you transferred you would have to sit out for a year and with the scholarship limits I would be willing to bet you would not get any money for that year. Just keep playing well and getting more money will take care of itself.

This is like asking for a raise at work. It's a what have you done for me lately thing, but you need to have some clear points about that subject as your coach might not see it the same way, and as mentioned achedemics can play a role in this discussion.

 

Also, not 100% on this, but I believe if you transfer to another school then you have to sit out a year. I'm only saying that because I've seen it happen in D1 basketball, not sure if the same rules apply.

Well, I told my coach that I wanted equal or more money than my friends had. They recieve about 70%, and he agreed that i deserve it and next year he will give me 70% which is tuition, books, and $4000 for room and board or w/e i spend it on. It comes out to about $12,000 after everything.

With that scoring avg, you definately deserve #2 money man.

Trust me, if you play as well for the next season, you'll get noticed, not only vindicatd by your own coach, by others as well.

Great play man, I've sent an application to that college actually, what handicap were you when you got in and what handicap were all the other guys on the team? I know hcap ain't everything but just give me a ballpark figure

My handicap is a +3.2. I was a .5 after my junior year, but i really stepped it up my senior year. I have the lowest handicap on the team. My scoring average would be a lot lower, but i got really mad one round and just played stupid and hot 82. So other than that round, My season has been really solid. Any more questions just ask. Its no problem and I like aswering them.

My coach has signed one player so far. He is looking for one more. We are going to be a young, but strong team next year. No seniors 2 juniors, 3 sophmores, and 2 Freshmen.

Hey dude pm me ur name, high school, and gimme ur last couple tournament scores. like 36 or more hole tournaments. I will talk to him if ya look like a good mix. rite now the team is really cool and we have great chemistry. But i will put in a word. the sooner the better.
