Ochoa vs. Pettersen?

As hard as it may have been for me to accept, Ochoa surpassed Annika as number 1. Ochoa worked extremely hard, played very consistently, and Annika has been injured. Now, here comes Pettersen with as many wins this season including duels with Ochoa in which Suzanne won. So is Suzanne pushing hard enough to unseat Ochoa?

So which one gets player of the year? Weren't some of Petterson's recent wins on the Euro Ladies tour? Or were they co-sanctioned? Or am I just way off in thinking they weren't LPGA events? Either way they have both played like world beaters this year and I would give the nod to Petterson because of her finish. But my goodness are they close.

The LPGA needed this a long time ago. My only wish is for some chicks from the US to put up a fight. I think Pressel has the the strongest game at this point. And Cristie Kerr if she can get her swing on.

Suzann is ranked #4 in the world. She is behind Annika at #3 and Karrie Webb at #2. If Suzann has another strong finish this year (depending on the quality of the field), she should move up to #3 with no problem. Lorena will have to not play at all next year and Suzann will have to have several top 10s at least to even threaten Ochoa. They base the ranking on a 2 year rolling period, so its kind of weird. The way that I'm reading it, Lorena has twice the points that Suzann has, so Pettersen still has a long way to go.

Yes, the LPGA will - well - should - be interesting next year. Pettersen showed some grit this year and I hope she keeps it up. I don't count out Annika, but with her life changes, I really suspect she is not going to be the force she used to be. Could be way wrong on that one!

 

Nothing like good competition to make the sport exciting.

Pettersson wil make up big ground next year provided she has a solid year, as she wasn't a member of the LPGA Tour at all in 206 (I think) and so she won't lose many WR points whereas Ochoa will lose some amount due to her good year in 2006
