M4vs M5 3 wood

Just purchased a M5 3 wood. I put it side by side with my 3 wood M4. It appears the M5 has less loft than the M4.

 

has anyone noticed it?

 

i purchased the club off eBay and am concerned with a fake.

You might be seeing things but there could be a few explanations:

(1) Twist Face on the M5.

I tried an M3 fairway but didn't like the low launch and unforgiving feel. I liked the M4 by comparison but went with the M6 because it was essentially the same price on Ebay and I wanted to have the Twist Face to match my driver (M3). To my eye, Twist Face makes the 3w face (at least on the toe) look flatter, as though there's less bulge/roll. This subtle difference could be playing tricks on you.

(2) Closed Face Angles

Taylormade likes to subtly add some loft and draw bias by pre-setting the face a little closed on the more forgiving fairway models. This was the case with Burner and RBZ and I see it in my M6, too! What that means for the end user is that your average 15-deg M6 3w is actually probably playing like a 16-deg when it's held it in a "square" position. This might be making your M4 appear to have a little more loft? I bet the M4 is the same as the M6 (a little closed).
