Epon AF Tour CB and AF 305

Starting a thread to maybe give some insight into my Epon purchase. Doing research myself in the weeks prior to todays fitting, I know there is not much information and reviews on Epon out there so figured I would add what I could. I have played Miura CB1008 and Mizuno JPX919F in the past, currently playing the JPX until my Epon's come in (6 weeks). 2020 is my 3rd year playing golf. 13hcp. On course or at the range 4-5x a week during golf season. I was a 24hcp when I had the CB1008 irons during my first year of playing, I bought the CB1008 after my first few rounds lol. I got addicted after those first few rounds. My friend convinced me to buy them stupidly. I ended up trading them in for the JPX as my mishits were not so good with the CB1008. Granted my first year playing I had no business playing those whatsoever. Anyways I hit the Mizuno's so much better but I completely lost the feel the Miura gave me. As I've gotten better in the past 2yrs and lowered my hcp, I want that feel back.

So I did research. I looked at everything possible on the internet having to do with Epon and the Endo forging house. Same goes for Miura and same goes for Kyoei forging house. Unfortunately there is no Kyoei fitter near me so I had to kind of scrap them as an option. But wow they have some of the most beautiful irons I have ever seen, upsetting they are not in chain fitters at least. So Epon(Endo) or Miura? I have had Miura before as I stated with the CB1008 and I am also able to hit all different models of Miura's at my "mom and pop" golf store by my house. He has a bags full of demo Miura's.

So I went to the fitting today. Tried the Miura MC-501 first and surprisingly I hit it well. But not surprisingly my few mis hits costed me 10-15yd. It felt great, felt like the Miura's I've hit at my mom and pop store. That dense full feeling hit you get out of a Miura. You can feel the mass of the clubhead as the ball comes off the face, in a good way. But I knew those mishits will hurt me at the end more then the great feels can ever help me.

Now I hit the Epon 505. I can't lie I think these clubs are ugly as hell. They felt great, I couldn't see the cavity at all from adress, not kidding. From adress they looked good, little thick topline and longer then the 305 and CB. I then tried the CB and the 305. I loved them both, they felt incredible. These clubs truly feel SOFT. It really is the definition of "butter". Totally different feel from Miura, these feel spongy and smooth, in an exceptionally good way. I tried these with the Nippon Modus 105S and Oban S(not sure of weight). The Oban felt too elastic(?) and combined with the soft head I just wasn't comfortable with the combo. I have always have Modus 105S so I guess that's what I'm just comfortable with. My dispersion was much tighter compared to my Mizuno's, but similar to the dispersion I saw with the MC-501 and the CB-301 which I also tried by the way. I was also going to try the TC201 but once I hit the Epon I didn't care to try the Miura anymore honestly. I got addicted to the Epon feel. The looks? Honestly not my favorite at all. I think I could put 6-8 irons in this category ahead of this iron in terms of asthetics. But I can't deny the feel and performance. They felt amazing, performed great and ahh I can't wait to get them.

In the end, I got AF Tour CB in 7-P and AF 305 in 4-6. Nippon Modus105S Black edition. BBandFCo Dragon ferrules. 1* upright. and the Tour CB made 1* strong.

I will of course update this thread once I get the clubs. Although the season in NY will be almost over, the range by me is heated and covered so I'll still be hitting in the winter.

Congrats!  I just got the AF Tour CB, 4-PW, Modus 120 shaft.

Being built right now. I had a demo 6 iron for a month, hit 350-400 balls with it.
