Here is a little background. My friend who I always play with is a mid to low handicapper depending on the course he is playing.

Until Saturday he has never been really good a spinning the ball until now. But for what ever reason Saturday, he could spin a top Flite on black top.

On the 3rd hole we were about 65yards out when he hit his 60* wedge and the ball made a “Buzzing” noise.

Well we get to the green and I marked and pick up his ball and I notice, what looks like STREAMERS hanging off his ball. (Picture)

Any way to make along story short : the night before he took a hammer and Flat Head screw driver and made his grooves bigger and deeper. (look @ pictures)

Well if you haven’t guessed it - our playing partners called an official and a measurement was taken….. And then we got the BOOT.

on the 4th hole, he spun the ball almost 15 feet... which ran down the false front amlost back to our feet.

i think this is what caused the other guys to get a rulling later on

I know we didnt talk for most of the ride home which was about an two hours.

I have to agree, for a little i'd be mad too, but in the end it's your best friend, hopefully he's not dumb enough to try this again, just to get a new wedge.

And as it's been said, it'll make a great bar story.

Seriously!! That flat out sucks. Sell the wedge on eBay. Maybe you will get your money back. Call it a rare tour wedge with hand made grooves.

Right there is a dozen callaway MD groove wedges. He could have used one for each hole almost .....(offcourse not )

Here is a story that I tell my friends about "spinning" the ball.

It was August 15th, 2001. I was a soon to be Freshman in High School and we were having our high school golf tryouts. Our tryouts were more intense than some college tryouts. We had won the state title for the last 3 out of 4 years and making this team as a freshman was next to impossible. I was competing against Juniors and Senoirs that basically had waited their turn for the other Juniors and Seniors on the team.
Anyway, my Dad is not a clubmaker, but he is a tinkerer. He basically took my PW, 9, 8 and 7 and "regrooved" them and sharpened the leading edge like an ice skate. He did this without telling me. This is where the fun begins. Now there are 3 main factors in why this story is so ridiculous.

1.) There was a misty rain earlier in the day dampening the course.

2.) PRO-V1's were brand new and could have been scuffed with your fingernail.

3.) I was using 1996 Big Bertha Irons.

The first hole I had an approach shot from 120 yds out and it was a clean hit that basically spun 10 feet, no big deal. Except for the ball had surlyn threads hanging off of the ball. I was confused.

The second hole I had an 100 shot into a green that sloped from back to front. The pin was in the front of the green and I hit my PW on the back of the green and it zipped from the back of the green to the front of the green and missed the cup by 2 inches. 70 feet of pull. That was stupid.

The third hole I had about 110 yds in and I hit this one thin, but it caught the green and it stopped and spun back 5 feet. That is when one of my partner's said,

"Damn, how do you do that?"

I was like "You just gotta hit down on the ball I guess."

As I said that, I looked at my PW and realized someone had seriously messed with my clubs.

Here is pic of the ball. I kept it because of the story and because I shot 73 and finished within the top 3 out of 16 and qualified as a freshman. I played out of mind and "spun" the ball like crazy all day.

Your ball looks just about like his did. i will have to get his prov1, that he was also using... i know it's almost as bad as yours.

I really feel bad because i know he was hitting a lot of range balls...... that country club will pissed when they pick up there balls and see streamers hanging off of them.

I had shredded covers on golf balls on my wedges also, but not like that.
If I know the wedges had been tempered with, it'll be on my conscious if I did not DQ myself.

In my defense, I really played well around the greens and spinning the ball like crazy didn't help my score in the first tournament I played in because I shot 85.

You need to set one of the pictures of that wedge as your avatar. It is a great story, especially since you weren't the one who was cheating. Make sure you rub this in your buddies face anytime you lose money to him on the course. Classic.

his wedge was actually causing more problems than it was worth.

out of the 11 hole we played i know he hit 3 balls pin high...but the spun the ball back almost to the front of the green or even worse.... they spun all the way off the green.

That's how Vokey does his wedges isn't it? Seriously though that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen or heard.
