does this sound like a spine angle problem?

Hello all,

not a frequent poster on the forums, but would appreciate some help. I don't have a camera so i'll have to do my best words.

 

some history, got a 3.7 handicap index and have been striking the ball well the last couple weeks until this past 4 days at the range.

 

the problem: im topping it, and when i don't top it im nearly shanking with a harsh descending blow. Im finishing with arnold palmer like style sometimes with my right hand coming off. and i do feel the chicken wing! for info, this issue is more evident in the shorter irons than long clubs...oh my...

 

Feels like: feels like im coming over the top or blocking it so im saving myself from a pull/hook (im not releasing the club at times). but when i try to come from the inside its going straight right block.

 

tried solutions with no results: clear the hips faster, low slow take away, more lag on the downswing. Because its more evident in my short clubs, i thought my plane was too flat, but trying to make it more upright made me go out-in more.

 

Im just confusing my self...could all of this be link to not maintaining my spine angle through my shot? after 4 days at the range, i think i just my swing worse...and i don't want to get worse by trying something else wrong. Thanks for any input.

could be spine angle could be flex in your knees

 

you could be straightening either

 

Lets try something different go back to the range

 

now I want you to picture how far you hit a seven iron

 

Then I want you to hit some balls at less than full power

 

example if you hit seven iron 150 lets knock off thirty yds I want you to pick a target 120yds and try to make a full slow swing to that distance I dont want you to take it inside or out side I want you to make a great set up and then a great turn away let the damn club follow its true path.

 

You just concentrate on make the slow swing and doing the drill I doubt you have lost your path I think you have lost all rythm it sounds like your going to fast and too hard

Note: back in my club pro days when I used to do clinics one of my favorite demonstrations was the 150 drill. I would start out killing a 9iron 150 then a seven then a five all full swings 150 three iron no problem when I finished the demo with driver I got a lot of ahhsssssssssssssss I just controled the speed its a great drill and a great point
