Why was I shanking?

So I went to the range today and for the first half of the bucket I was hitting like 75% shanks. It was not pleasant.

 

I made a small feel adjustment, which immediately helped and I started hitting the middle of the clubface again.

 

It might just be a short term band aid, so I'd like to hear what people can see here that's causing the shank:

Well that'll be it, case closed I guess!

 

The change I made was to think about Monte's 'Zipper away' feel. I figured I'm obviously getting closer to the ball so why not just move away! Thanks Monte 🙂

 

Now what to fix... Clubface looks a touch open in the downswing maybe. And the biggest thing is my hands/arms are not forward enough at impact (not that you can see from this DTL view of course)

I'm no coach! But I like to guess what the real answers will be. My *guess* is work on less inside takeaway and reversing that hip movement pattern (right hip away from the ball in the back swing, left hip away from the ball in the down swing VS left hip to the ball in the back swing, right hip to the ball in the down swing)

Looks like a little too much lateral motion judging by footwork....but I might be off. Be interested to see a face on and look at sternum/belt buckle relation through the swing.

Well I was quite happy with my iron swing after making the 'zipper away' adjustment.

 

But out for a little 9 holes practice today and my driver swing... well that's not looking so good.

 

Hitting massive push cuts today. High, right and short.

 

Looks like my hands go out too much and I throw the clubhead out. Face looks open too?

The ball flight on the drive would seem to indicate a closed face; ball appears to start to the left of target?

From what I see you’ve got a path issue, clubhead is kicking out and you are swinging out to in across it. That’s why you hit those shanks too, from the clubhead kicking out early.
