After reading bunch of posts and articles over the last decade I finally decided to pull the trigger and make an account. So thanks for having me. I look forward to getting to know you and maybe playing 18 with you. 

 

I am getting back into the game after a pretty long break where I was playing 1 round a year. Back in the late 90’s as a teenager in Northern California I was a scratch golfer and in my 20’s and 30’s played my way back to around a 4 or 5.

 

The plan is to get the game back in shape and start playing tournaments again next summer. Seeing how the game has evolved in the last decade with analytics, equipment and ability to optimize equipment being available to the everyday average player is borderline unbelievable.

 

My first steps in modernizing my bag are adding a 19° callaway apex uw to the bag and replacing my old blade putter with a mallet. It took me 30 years to discover I don’t hate the way mallet putters feel what I hated was the way face balanced mallet putters feel.

 

In the decade since I last bought irons it looks like graphite iron shafts are finally superior to steel in every way except price. So I’m pulling the kbs tour X shafts out of my ping s56 and replacing them with some cheap used MMT 125tx I picked up from eBay. The s56 being cast ping heads I can probably play them for the rest of my life. But hey player distance irons are a thing now so who knows how long they actually stay in the bag.

 

Bag composition is going to be the biggest question. The s56 have traditional lofts so I’m seriously thinking about dropping the 3 iron for a ~22° hybrid.
