Melbourne- Viera West

I will be in the Viera West area the 25th of March - thru the 1st. We are staying across from Duran Golf Club. Been looking through the topics and seen that Duran was usually a good course in this area. Is there any other places I shouldn't miss playing? I will be by myself so hopefully I can still get on but not sure on the policies there. Would also enjoy playing with anybody in the area if interested?

Welcome to the Space Coast. Sadly we are not flush with nice courses like much of coastal Florida. And the local defense industry paychecks keep things very high priced, courses in Viera are all overpriced IMO.

 

Duran is good, feels a little resort-ish with wide fairways, generous mounds to kick wayward shots back in play. Prepare for a lot of slight dog-legs around water.

Viera East is next best nearby, quintessential Florida course, feels a little Dye meets Fazio. Needs some TLC around the edges.

 

Baytree also very close is worth playing. Gary Player design, really need a GPS view of the holes, local knowledge, so make sure you pick a good line off the tee here. Play the shorter tee club if required.

 

25min north, a wild card, Great Outdoors is cheap and has fantastic greens. Fun course in an RV community but has some great holes.

30min west you get Harmony which is a unique Johnny Miller design. Wide open fairways, bombers paradise. Greens need some love, they have some foreign grass sprigs that can knock a putt offline.

 

~45min-1hr away you get Eagle Creek near Orlando Airport, or you can go north to LPGA in Daytona Beach. Futher west you get all the Disney stuff.

 I am going to look up the Great Outdoors course. Thanks for the recommendations. Prob will play Duran a couple times if I can being that it is within walking distance.
