Knuckleball

Can this be me?

Went to the driving range at lunch (apologies to you guys up north). I could swear almost every shot I hit looked like a knuckleball flying out there. It'd wobble around and then drop.
I hate to even ask...is that my swing or the range balls or what?

Also, what happens if your shafts are too weak? I felt like I had to swing really hard to get the ball to fly.

Part of it could be the range balls, a lot times, at least at the range I go to, some of the balls seem so worn down that there are hardly any dimples on the ball. That could definitely make the ball knuckle. did you recently make any swing changes or get a new driver? And some golfers actually are low spin players, tiger included, and need a high spin ball in order to optimize launch conditions.

Yeah, both. I've been working thru swing changes and I do have a new driver and irons. Just seemed weird to see the ball do that.

Yeah I agree it is weird... but it sounds like with the right ball you will have great long launch conditions on the course

 

another thought is that some ranges use restricted flight golf balls...

i've hit a few balls like that at the range, and it only happened when I made a bad swing and really missed the sweet spot. But even then I don't quite understand how i could hit a ball with that little amount of spin
