Ai Smoke Max head weight

Has anyone else weighed their AI Smoke Max and was surprised by how light it is? Mines coming in at only 185 with the screw but no adapter. My TD Rogue ST is at 196.

Weighed mine earlier and it was 192 with screw no adapter.

What weights are on yours? The front says 2 on mine, the rear blue sliding says 8 and the small one inside the track says 3. I weighed the rear blue slider with screw and the small inside track weight and they came out to 8g together.

 

With both weights removed mines at 175 so maybe with what I'm reading as the 14/2 setup it's supposed to have I'd be about the same. Still definitely on the light side though even at 191, how are they getting the advertised swing weights?

Mine has the same weight setup. 
 

Just bought a weight kit to use on my TD and might mix the Max head back in by changing the front weight out with something a little heavier.

I'm fairly sure manufacturers are including adapter weight. I weighed a PXG adapter at roughly 8g and the head 195g, which adds up to 203g as stated. That's got to be fairly common of a practice.

The adapter is part of head weight, just like the hosel is on irons.

Did you include the ferrule? its also "head weight", so is epoxy used.
The shaft is simply the net cut shaft alone
The grip includes both build up tape and grip tape
That's how we split this up as 3 parts

Yes. I estimate swing weight by calculator I use the one linked below that includes all of that. Accurate enough for a calculated value, but obviously not as precise as measurement. 🙂 

 

I do try to be precise in my approach as much as a DIY guy really can from what I've learned around here.

I was comparing the weight to other heads weighed the same way though. I don't see how this head would swing weight anywhere close to advertised how it's setup. Mine is 11g lighter than my Rogue ST. 

 

It seems like a few people are getting similar weighted heads. Is there some setup they are weighting these light heads for and then they get put on the usual stock shaft offerings at a big box store?

Any part of the adapter on the shaft should be included. 11g isn't out of line for the full adapter. do you have a separate adapter to weigh? Or did you?

I weighed a Rogue ST head without an adapter the same way as the ai smoke, one after the next on my scale. If I added an adapter to the ai smoke just to get more weight I'd have to do the same thing to the Rogue ST head.

 

 

All the weights in this thread are without adapters. The only head weight in there close to my Ai smoke max is a TSR with all the weights removed from it. This head I got is ridiculously light it seems.
