8.5 or 9.5 ??

Im getting a R7 TP 425 driver but im unsure of what loft to get. I have just had a GBBII and a Fusion FT3 and they both went too high. Now i heard the R7 TP has a lower ballflight and if i want to hit it lower i can change a 9.5 to dynamic loft of 8.5 ??

 

Has anyone had the chance to compare these drivers or have any of you got any advice on this matter. Im a little concerned im gonna go out and buy another driver with too much loft :birthday:

It seems you can't go wrong with too much loft. Carry distance is the rage now and i guess if its too much of a problem you could adjust the weights or sell it at a very small loss, due to it being a new release

i say you should stay with 9.5 because you are gonna be able to control the weights, if you are getting R7...

 

like, you can set the weights to lower launch, which would help you to decrease the spin rate and this

 

would give more roll...

I made my decision and im gonna go for 8.5. I have hit every 9.5 degree driver ive had too high and im gonna asume if i go for 9.5 in this im gonna have the same problem.

i dont know frank i would go with the 9.5, even though i have an 8.5 and i hit it high this can be misleading because its a high flight with spin.im going to a 9 or 9.5 cos even though itll go higher itll spin less and carry farther.alot of people think they hit 8 or 8.5 too high but its cos theyre hittin it hard and spinnin it into the air.smoother swing with a 9.5 should do the trick for you

Before you commit please get the other drivers measured for static loft.. My Tour FT-3 for example is labeled 9.5 but measured 11 degree and 2 degree open. :birthday:

Id love to get em measured but theres nowhere i can do that here in Holland. Ive hit the 9.5 on the driving range and compared it to the 9.5 ft3. The weight was set low ( high trajectory ) on the TP and i hit it pretty much the same as the ft3. I dont know how much difference it would make if i set the weight a little lower ??

Nah its gonna be tough to get a place that has em with a luanch monitor. I think that 9.5 is perfect untill the breeze picks up. I get a good carry down or with no wind but it balloons into. How much difference do these weight settings make to the dynamic loft on the club ??

IMO I would go with the 9.5. I carried a 8.5 until I got onto a launch monitor with my R7. I used to hit a really high ball until I just changed the weights to the low setting and I have a perfect ball flight and I love hitting the long ball again.

Definitely go with the 9.5, which is still fairly low-lofted. You can never hurt yourself with an extra degree of forgiveness. The new shaft does keep the ball down and with a 425cc head you won't hit the ball too high.

9.5. Even if you have to grip down and 3/4 it when the wind kicks up. If you hit the 9.5 too high it's a swing issue more than a loft issue.

what shafts are you using? shafts make a difference in both kickpoint (trajectory) and spin. i went from a nike fujikura stiff (mid-lo kick point) in my old nike 350, to a prolite 35 stiff (high kickpoint) trajectory came down 3* (17* to 14*) and rpm came down 1400 rpm (4100 - 2700). gained 30 yards in carry distance and 40 yards overall. similar thing happened in going from a graphite design ys-6 stiff to aldila nv-75 stiff in a nike 410. shafts do make a difference.

 

i agree with everyone else, the 9.5 is good choice. much more forgiving. i think unless you are a very consistent and solid ball striker with a swing speed over 115, you shouldn't use anything less than 9.5*, just my own opinion.

I have always used stock shafts up untill my GBBII i got last year. That had the YS6 shaft sx flex and i hit that a little lower. ( allso 9.5 ) the FT3 i have had the last few months has an Aldila nv 65 stiff. That ballooned up on me a bit and i found it too light. I like the feel of the Rombax shaft in the TP though :birthday:
