Thin, thin, thin, thin, thin

Ok, so for the past couple weeks I have been hitting almost every iron/wedge shot thin. It's rediculous. On the range I seem to do alright and can hit some nice shots but on the course every, and boy do I mean every, shot is thin and very low. What should I do? I wish I could post a video of my swing but at this time that's not possible. What swing thought or drills can I do to fix this? Thanks in advance.

Keep your head steady, right leg braced and get your right arm straightned out for impact.

Swing lower. Seriously, it sounds like it's become a mental issue which I imagine makes your tension level go way up. Commit to the process of your visualization and pre-shot routine and try to be neutral to the outcome. Make sure your grip pressure and tension level in your arms stays fairly light. Make sure you're hitting iron shots with a downward blow, not trying to lift it up. If necessary focus your eyes on a spot a couple of inches behind the ball until your confidence returns.

Maybe flipping your hands instead of driving down through the ball? All kinds of possibilities but this is probably the most common.

Nope, not flipping. Flipping cill cause more fats than thins normally.

 

Hand too much ahead of club at impact. The arm and club should be INLINE at impact . A good feel is to feel like you gonna hit the ground with the bounce of the wedge.. not the leading edge.

 

 

and maybe weight is not kept at the left foot.

Without seeing it I would only be guessing, but here a few things it could be... ball position... Left wrist break down at impact... or maybe you are getting ahead of it at impact

hayam, I gotta disagree about flipping. If a person does not shift any weight forward and flips, they are gonna hit it thin. I see it all the time.

Good info so far. Yeah, I've always had a problem with flipping. And also my miss is left if that helps. Keep the ideas coming.

When I'm not hitting the ball solidly I always start with my feet together and start swinging easier. This prevents any lateral movement and the club can more easily return to the path it started on. When you're hitting hit solid start slowly widening your stance. This should help a lot. I don't see how a person can hit it thin with there feet together. I'm a sweeper so on occassion I'm prone to hitting a thin shot.

Kostis had another booboo here....the club doesn't compress the ball against the ground...the ball is already gone

Speed. I tend to hit the ball thin when I try to swing fast from the top of my backswing. Start your backswing slow and let it speed up.

this is it above - 100%, i hit thin when either flipping or trying to pick it clean. not good golf. one drill you can try (don't let the greenkeeper see you) is without a ball, take a divot, then in that divot swing again and try to extend that divot. Do that several times until you cannot reach out any further. Brian Manzella demonstrated this very well in one of his videos (Former Flipper I believe), but it really gets you in the habit of hitting down and through so as not to quit on the shot, thereby flipping and thinning it.

One drill I do when I am hitting thin shots is to start my swing above the ball. Meaning: At address, instead of soling the club, I have the clove off the ground, over the ball. This forces me to stay in the shot and not pop up. It also helps my when I'm pulling shots as well. Not sure why it works for pulls, but it does. I would hit 10-20 shots like that and then sole the club and see what happens.

Most likely you're just coming out of your shot. Keep focused on your spine angle staying intact through the shot. I like to feel my hips slightly bent over and keeping that feeling through the ball.

 

This is an oft discussed topic with a easy solution.

Don't move your body vertically (keep your head steady, as someone stated above). I could see you swinging too hard and maybe leaning back in your swing.

 

The other thought was simply slow down.
