Diamana Blue breakdown and balooning

I have a Cleveland Comp 8.5 driver with a Diamana Blueboard 83x shaft (Shaft came out of Andrew Magee's driver about 2 years ago) and have been using this combo for about those 2 years. For a while I could flat out bomb the thing with some drives going 310+ easily. Lately something wierd has happened. I can really feel the shaft kick hard at the bottom, almost whipping through and the ball baloons like crazy and I have easily lost 10-20 yards on average. So I went to the PGA superstore to get my numbers on a monitor. They were:

Ave swing speed 110 mph

Ball Speed 155-158

Launch Angle 14-15

Ball Spin 3500-3700

Ave Carry 265

Ave Dist 280

My question is, coupld the changes be due to the shaft breaking down and becoming weaker over time. I dont like the way the shaft feels now and have lost some confidence and most of all control of where the ball is going. I did have this happen in the stock Fujikura Shaft that came with my Comp. It went from an x flex to just over a R flex in 6 months. Anyway I just wanted to get some thoughts and I am thinking about switching to a Diamana Whiteboard. Let me know what you think. THX

I experienced the same problem with my Nickent driver. I had a Grafalloy Pro Launch Red Stiff shaft in and within half a year, the shaft stiffness felt as if it was weakening as every week went by. I eventually switched to a 907D2, which gave me opprtunity to rip out the old shaft. Due to poor installation, the shaft was apparantly starting to splinter from the tip up.

 

I dont know if this is the same problem you are having, but its worth taking the thing out and having a look. But as always, you can ruin a shaft taking them out, so I would recomend bringing it to a friend who does it regularly.
