Swing Speed 65 mph - Senior Flex Grahite?

I have been playing regular steel shafts my whole life. I am now 49 and was at PGA Superstore and after watching me for a while the rep suggested "senior" flex, graphite shafts for me. I averaged 65 mph with a 7 iron with the steel. Is he correct? Should I make the jumpt to graphite/senior or grahite/regular? I normally hit my 7 iron 150 yds w/ the steel/reg.

I would not change from regular flex but why graphite if you are hitting the steel ok. I am 61 and hit regular steel. I'd say there is something wrong with his measurement. You have to swing 75 to 80 to get 150 with a 7 iron. Tell him thanks, but no thanks.

My swing speed is 65 mph with a 7 iron. That's why he recommended the switch to graphite. He said for steel you should swing a minimum of 80 mph.

Ya, there is no way you are hitting a 7 iron 150 yards if that is your swingspeed. Either your measurements are off on the course, or the numbers were off in the store (the more likely option)

 

Were you on their simulator? The thing that has a projector showing on the screen you are hitting into? If that's it those are never very accurate.

got too agree with 'sigh' - the measurements are all to ****.

 

My ssr with a driver is 92 mph and at 150 yards i carry (just) a 7 iron in the summer and 6 iron in cold conditions. My irons are Graphite stiff REAX and Regular woods tipped to stiff.

 

Going to graphite from steel may help increase some, but not a great deal....I should know because that is exactly what i have done with these new irons.

Yes, it was at PGA Superstore's simulator. I will try somewhere else to see if I get the same results. But if my swing speed IS 65mph, would I be better off with senior/graphite irons? What MPH is the cutoff point for swinging steel?

Good thing I didnt jump the gun. Went back to another store and decided against the Senior flex. My swing speed was 85 with a driver and 65 with irons. The fitter said I was more than adequate for regular flex. However, I did quite like regular graphite vs regular steel, but not sure if I can afford the extra $200.

Then dont rush to buy until you can afford the $200 .............. if you buy steel you will end up regretting it!
