Which side of ProV1 to strike

does it matter?

I read years back to get the most distance/performanceout of a ProV1, you should strike the Titleist logo because of how the seams were aligned. Does this hold true anymore?

I'd be surprised if it was true to be honest. I've seen a few tour pros line up the seam on tee shots for alignment (like they do when putting).

This is what Jack Nicklaus said in the article:

There were, and still are, a lot of people that believe lining up the seam (the line right along the ball model in the older balls where there are no dimples) made the ball fly truer on full shots and roll truer on putts. I too find that hard to believe as the seam was a little lower, so the ball always rolled on its dimples. But then again, I'm no physicist, so I don't know. By the way, the 2007 model and later of the ProV1 have adopted their own version of Bridgestone's "Seam-less technology" so the argument is moot at this point.

I just spun 5 dozen this afternoon (rainy day) on a Check-Go (Christmas present from Scientist friend) and from a balance standpoint there is no correlation to the seam or logo or line or anything. I did find three out of the 5 dozen that have absolutely no felt vibration even when the little machine light comes on indicating that the ball is in balance-most of the time a hand can still feel a little vibration. I'll save those for when they really count.

 

By the way I have found no benefit one way or the other to doing this with my skill level but it's still pretty interesting.

ProV1's no longer have a seam so I don't see how this matters anymore...

Does the Check-Go give you consistent results? If you make your mark, take the ball out of the unit and run the test again, does it center on that mark again?
