Old School Titleist

Hi all,

A bunch of us are getting ready for our work tournament on Thursday and I was out cleaning up my sticks and thought I would take some pics to share.







My Irons are Acushnet AC-108's from 1972. I was browsing vintage clubs and I fell in love with the looks. And surprisingly I hit them really well despite them being ranked almost dead last in Maltby's Playability Factor with a MPF of -412 .

I know I don't have any fairway woods or hybrids but I am short on cash (always) and would rather play golf instead of buying new stuff. Someday though.

WOW! I've never known anyone to use irons from the early 70's.

You post count doesn't go up in the WITB forum, 19th Hole Forum or the BST Forum. Not sure if there are any others that don't count or not.

The greens keeper at my local course turned me on to it. I found it for $35 and never looked back. I would still like to think that a nice shiny new putter would help me, but I still believe that if you gave tiger a hockey stick, he would still beat me 10 times out of 10 no matter what putter I had.

 

Cool irons. How do they compare in distance to the newer irons?

I used to play some Taylormade Burner's (my first set) and the distances are about the same. Some days when the sun is shining and the stars are aligned just right and I hit it pure, I can count on my 2 iron to go 220 if that helps.

 

How do they feel?

On the rare occasion that I hit it pure, there isn't a sweeter feeling on earth. but even mishits are not that bad. They are tungsten weighted cavity backs and I think that they are really forgiving.
