Where to play

My girlfriend has a conference in Charlotte the week of the 17th so I decided to tag along and try to sneak in a round or 2 while she is in meetings. Any suggestions?

Wow only played in Charlotte once but the good news was it was at a muni but I do not remember the name of it

 

I promise you it was a very nice golf course I was there playing in the NC state open that was about 1984

I would drive an hour north to Ashboro to play Tot Hill Farm. Its worth the drive. Irish Creek looks nice but I think it may be private but worth looking into.

If your going north at all look at Tobacco Road or Tot Hill they are done by the same guy and they are both amazing

I've played Birkdale and Skybrook seven or eight times each.

 

Birkdale is a Palmer design with some very good holes. It hasn't been in great shape the last couple of times I've been....and there are power lines that cross fairways several times (which takes away from the general flow, I think). The course always seems busy with outings and such as well.

 

Skybrook is a fantastic layout with a great finish. Literally anything can happen on 16, 17, and 18. On 18, aim driver left of the tree. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it.

 

Between the two, I'd pick Skybrook. I'd pick Birkdale over lots of other places, though.

I found some website for the "Carolina Trail" golf courses that look like they are all around Charlotte. Skybrook looked really nice from what little I could see on the website.

I don't think there are any muni's in Charlotte. The only one I can think that it may have been is Sharon, and that's been gone for 15 years or so.
