Studio design Custom paint fill

I am thinkin about doin a custom paint fill on my studio design 1.5. Anyone know how this is done? ie:what kind of paint. Any one done it before?? Anyone advise against it? Thanks

I did my Studio Stainless with nail polish. It's really simple: Put a substantial amount of nail polish over each letter/stamp (covering the stamp and the area around it). Let it dry for 10-20 minutes then, using cotton balls and nail polish remover, wipe off the excess polish. In some areas, especially the cavity of the putter, I had to use Q-tips to wipe away barely visible remnants of nail polish, but if you're careful the first time, you can do a whole putter in about 10 minutes work time (minus time it takes to dry). Also, using nail polish is virtually risk-free because, if you don't like the way it looks, it is very simple to change or even remove color. I did mine several months ago and it still looks great. If you're looking for a professional-looking result, go with a pro.

 

Kevin Colbert does amazing paintfill work. So does Tom Slighter. And neither is as expensive as you'd think for something like this.

 

Kevin Colbert has done a couple of putters for me, and is great with turnaround. He does some incredible engraving work as well...

Like I said in my previous post, I did this back in November. The nail polish has held up extremely well: no cracking, no blemishes, no wear at all. Obviously, this work isn't as high grade as a professional job, but as you can see it's an extremely clean job and easy to change or remove colors once applied. I think the all-red scheme I have may be a tad boring, so I'm thinking about changing it up soon!

These were done with Testor's enamel paint - the kind you get at hobby stores (the little $1.49 bottles).

 

Put the paint on with a toothpick, let dry over night, and clean off the excess with a Q-tip and paint thinner. It's actually pretty easy. None of these #5's took longer than 1/2 and hour to do.

Wow i like the work on those #5s. What paint is it? And about the nail polish if you try to take it off with nail polish remover will that take off the original paint?

I always recommend Testor's Enamel because it is a durable paint. I think fingernail polish would come off over time.

CAn anyone tell me which Testors the yellow and green are (as in the name and/or number)?

Yellow is 1114 and green is 1124

 

you can go to a wal-mart and buy a combo color pack for about 7 bucks...as for taking off the original...a finely sharpened 1/32 drill bit for a pik and acetone.

Yellow: "1114 Yellow"

 

Green: "1124 Green"

 

They both came in the "Special Value Paint Set" that has 8 bottles in it...yellow, green, gold, red, blue, silver, black, white, and a bottle of thinner.

Thanks guys. Also, can anyone tell me the number of the blue un the bottom of the studio stainless putters? They don't have the pack at the place I go and they'll card me at Wal-Mart. Any info would be great because I just used The Works to refinish my Newport 2 and it took off all the paintfill.

Yes. Testor makes modeling supplies. Look in the toy section by all the models or in your local hobby shop. You want the enamel not the acrylic.
