Feel of an iron: Buttery Soft / Clicky

Iron feel (ie. Mizuno / Titleist)

Hey guys,

I just got a message from a member of this forum concerning feel of irons. I know Mizuno is known for buttery soft feeling, and Titleist is known for a little bit harsher feel or maybe "clicky".

Can you guys explain what this "clicky" feel mean or feel like?
By "clicky", do you mean it will sound and feel more like a cast iron?
Also, wouldn't buttery feel of iron deaden the feeling of the iron and feel less responsive than "clicky" iron?
Finally, what would you prefer and why (comparison of two feeling irons).

I am just curious.

i think the mizzys have a softer and sweeter feeling....not as harsh as the titleists...not that the titleists are harsh....just a little hard compared to the mp33's etc ;)

IMO - How an iron "feels" can only be determined by the person swinging the club. Always try and demo if possible. One persons soft as butter may be another persons hard as a rock. I personally prefer ENDO forgings. I've tried the others and while all quality forgings, I like the feel of ENDO the best.

Let's not forget the firmness of the ball in this "feel"equation. If it's a soft covered balata ball the sound will be "softer" and the feel in your hands will be different. If you use a hard covered distance ball, impact will sound more "clicky" and harsh in your hands.

Some of you scratchers will laugh, but I think the OS2's have a nice buttery feel.

I agree with the comment about the OS2 -- nice feel for GI iron...that's probably one of the reasons for it's popularity.

Also like the 23's though and the cally x-18s as far as feel from a GI iron.

I believe it was Golf Digest (I could be wrong) that did a study of feel. They determined that the majority of what golfers think they feel in an iron comes from the sound and not their hands. I am not sure I agree totally but, it is a neat idea. I hit balls quite a bit with my Ipod on and I have noticed a difference. With all this being said, I still prefer Mizuno irons. I am not sure if it's my ears or hands but, I love the feel ;)
