2009 pro v1x

I just bought a sleeve of these today at the golf course to try them out,and I was very dissapointed. I used all 3 balls and still had 2 holes left to play, my callaway wedges ripped the covers right off of them. Whats up, I thought they were suppose to be more durable this year? I love the way it spins but my god one long wedge shot and its not even puttable anymore. What do I need to do, I really like the ball other than that, I guess maybe go back to the tour i series ball, or get some different wedges?

Lol I have the same problem but I love the feel of the pro v series so I just put up with it.

Just returned home from 18 this afternoon with some more notes. Played with the Srixon Z-Star for the first nine (had nine on it from earlier so after 18 total). The Srixon looked good and was still playable but had some scuffs on it from some wedge shots. Back nine was finished with a Pro V1. After just nine holes the Pro V1 has more damage than the Srixon but there is a huge trade off. The Srixon has what I call hop and stop spin and the Pro V1 has spin back to pitch mark or more. I actually got screwed by the Pro V1 having to much spin as I landed the ball just short on an elevated green only to have it spin back off the front. My fault for juicing a wedge and not getting it to the hole. Just a mental fart for not thinking about the ball change. The Srixon would have stayed on top. I should just pick a ball and not deal with the differences. I have one sleeve of Srixons left and a dozen 09 Pro V1's / Nike One Tours. I gave the Srixons a go and while they are a great ball I would recommend them to someone looking for a premium ball that will not tear like a Pro V1. I have had great rounds with the Nike One Tour and it is very similar to the playing characteristics of the Pro V1 with enhanced durability. Nike and Titleist will remain in the bag for this year but I am always looking for the next great ball.

The reason the ProV1 was developed was bc Top Flite came out with the Strata in the late 90's. All of the sudden Strata players like Mark O'Meara (Remember when he started driving 20 yards past everyone and checked his ball still) began winning like crazy. At the time Titleist only had wound balls ie. DT Wound, Balata, Professional, etc... These balls had none of the performace of a 3 piece solid core ball. In an "oh s***" moment Titleist then reverse engineered the Strata and the ProV1 was born. In a genious move by Callaway they purchased Spalding(who owned Top Flite) and sued Acushnet for patent fraud. Now the current ProV1 you play is not a new and improved cover. It is a stripped down ball that they had to come up with a feature to market. So there is how your your argument came about. Titleist became so far behind in technology they that reversed engineered a competitor's ball to regain market share. It just took 10 years for their chicken's to come home to roost.
