Srixon Z Star vs Nike One Tour D

I recently played these balls side by side for 36 holes. I have heard great things about the Z star on this site so I had to give it a try. I have hated most of the Nike offerings in the past but based on some reports of crazy low driver spin with the One Tour D I thought I would try it as well. A little background on my game. Driver SS of 110-115. I have a history of overspinning my drives and have searched long and hard for a ball that wont balloon and drop like a rock out of the sky. I over spin iron shots often as well. After 2 rounds here are my overall impressions.

 

FEEL (Putter): Off the putter the Z star wins hands down. The Nike however, isnt a rock like the One Black. Considering that the Tour D is replacing the One Black I was pleasently suprised that the Tour D was as soft as it was. The Z star feels like butter.

 

DRIVER: The Nike Tour D is the longest and lowest spinning offering I have hit to date. The feel off the driver is firm but produces low launching and spinning drives. The Z star feels rather odd off of the face. The Tour D was consistantly 7-12 yards longer than the Z star (most of which was roll). The ball flight for the Z star was noticably higher than the Tour D.

 

IRONS: Very little difference between the two balls in this area. Both backed up enough on full iron and wedge shots. WIth that being said, the Z star did have a little more spin on full and punch shots.

 

GREENSIDE: The Z star has a little bit more bite than the Tour D but if blindfolded I would be suprised if I could tell the difference.

 

OVERALL. Both of these balls are outstanding. For me, the Nike One Tour D will have a permanent place in my bag. I have always struggled with controlling spin and this ball gives me ability to drive it long and straight as well as keep the spin down on full iron shots. I do, however, see why folks love the Z star due to its soft feel.

Good review. Nice to see someone else rocking a Nike ball. Seems like they get no love around here. Sounds like the Z Star X is more for your game though based on what you have said. The overall opinion is that the X is much firmer than the Z Star. I can't compare that to the One Tour D as I play the One Tour. Nike would have me 100% and never looking for another ball if it were just a touch more soft. There is a nice soft-firmness to it but I miss the muchy balls. So far the Nike One Tour is a staple in my bag.

+1 for the Nike One tour. I just played a round today, and used 1 ball the entire round. Had a pretty good ball striking day, and the Nike One Tour was solid off of the tee, checked up nicely on the greens and putted well. My SS is in the 114-118 range with the driver, and this ball performs very well off the tee - I play Pro V1x's as well and did not notice any loss of distance. It looks like I will be ordering a few dozen for the next few months based off of the last few weeks with this ball.

I played the tour d for a few weeks and have recently switched to the z star x because of the feel and play around the greens. The tour d is a great ball on full swings but anywhere around the green the zstarx just absolutely dominates the nike.
