Leupold GX II Question

Recommended Posts

I recently ordered a Leupold GX II and am waiting for it to arrive. The online instructional video mentions that you should enter the average distance hit with a 4,6 and 8 iron to use the club selector option. How does this translate if I am using hybrids to replace my 2-5 irons? I definitely hit my 23 degree hybrid further than a 4 iron and sometimes keep both the 27 degree hybrid and my 5 iron in the bag (depending on the week) because the gaps seem more even. So should I be using my 23 degree hybrid or my 27 degree hybrid distance for my 4 iron value, or perhaps just take an average of the two?

I am really looking forward to using this rangefinder, especially for elevated tee boxes or greens. Any help would be appreciated.

To be honest, you should just enter in what you think is the 4 iron distance. Then you just have to remember that if you use the club guide, "I need to hit the hybrid softer with a cut or choke up on it". The best thing about the GX-II is the slope adjustment. No more trying to figure out the adjusted yardage. Just point and shoot. You'll love this thing.

I bought last years model that had the std battery. Does the model you bought have a rechargeable battery? Did they give you a charger pack or do you plug a cord into the GX-II?

hmm...just went to the website and it mentions nothing about recharegeable anything. I swear I saw that somewhere. However, it really is not a big deal. My battery still shows full/3 bars and I've had it for a year. You'll love the GX-II, as I do. I no longer have that post-shot look of "how the hell did I get the yardage so wrong?".

Have any idea how this model compares to the V2 slope edition?

It's not rechargeable. It comes with a small battery (CR2). The pouch also has a little side pocket to carry extra small battery (CR2) if you want.

As far as the OP's question regarding his hybrids. Obviously you will hit longer with your hybrids and if you enter those numbers into the device, it will make incorrect calculation for your other remaining clubs. In other words, if it says that you should use your 4 iron but you entered the 4 hybrid distances, it will work, however, when it says you should use your 5, its calculation for the 5 will be longer which is based on the 4 hybrid distances. Obviously, when you take out your 5 iron, guess what, your iron doesn't go as far as a 5 hybrid would go. Understand?

on how the leupold compares to the v2 with slope...

they really are quite different devices in terms of functionality (and i think abilities fwiw), though in size and weight they are basically the same. i think most users wind up with bushnells based on the brand name. leupold i think is best known for scopes, but i have to believe its just a matter of time before more people start considering them seriously - i personally think its easier to find a pin with a leupold than with the bushnell (aside from having higher magnification i think the leupold simply had the ability to pick the pins up better at long distances...but at 100 yds or whatever to the pin its not going to matter which you choose).

the leupold has lots of other fancy things like you can pick which cursor you want to see when you look through it, it can tell you what club to hit - none of which the bushnell offers (either the v2 or 1600 slopes)

you should check out some more detailed reviews too-

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
