1/2" Wide Lead Tape

Recommended Posts

I just received my 1/2" wide lead tape that is 21 feet long. If I want to increase the swing weight by 1, how many inches long should it be. Also, the same if I want to inc. sw by 2. Lastly, if I want to inc. sw by 4 (i.e., D1 to D5), should I just stack two pieces together? If so, how long should they be (i.e., 1/2"-1")? My irons are only D1 and I want them up more around a D5...any or all combinations or rule you thumb you can provide is greatly appreciated!

You can place them on top of each other, you you can spread them around and cut them to fill the entire cavity (if you have CBs). Think about it like wherever you add them, you are adding weight, so if you put a bunch of strips on top of each other at the bottom of the club, you'll be moving the Center of gravity down, really don't know how much though.

Or if you already hit the ball high enough, and could stand to bring it down, you could put all the strips at the top of the club.

Another tip with lead weight that I learned here, make sure the club back is clean before you apply, use rubbing alcohol if you have it.

Then when the tape is on, especially if you are using a lot, take a blow dryer on hi and and let it blow on the lead tape on the club for a few minutes, then really press the tape into the club. This will make sure it stays on the club. Good luck.

depends on what lead tape you have my 1/2" tape adds 1 gram per 1"

you really need to get a swingweight scale and do it properly

ok so i want to increase my sw by 4 pts...so i am going to use four 4.5 inch strips (one 4.5 inch strip=1 sw)....is it ok if i put two strips on the bottom below the cb (not the sole, but just below the main cb), and two strips just above the cb...or is it important to put all 4 strips in the same area...i guess putting 2 on top and 2 on bottom will just cancel each other out and have no effect on the ball then?

it depends onw hat lead tape you have to see how mcuh weight you will add, you need to find a swingweight scale so you can get the correct swingweight, chances are your not going to put enough tape ont eh ead to gie it a bias at all, but if you want it to fade a little put it ont he toe or draw a little on the heel or if you want it neutral but it all on the back or om the sole in the middle

its mroe of a mentalthing when puttign it on clubs for fade or draw bias but also to lower flight put it closer to the top line of the irons or raise height lower closer to the sole

well i putt lead tape on the top line of all the clubs except the 4 iron, where i put it on the top and bottom just as an experiment....but i was wondering since i put it on the bottom and top, will they just offset each other so there is no bias toward lowering or raising the height of the golf ball?...all the clubs feel nice and heavy now because i added four strips to each head measuring 4.5 inches long/strip...4 iron has two strips on the top and 2 on the bottom...i had them measured a few days ago and they were d1...now they are prob. around d5...my local clubbuilder is on vacation now, so i can't get them measured...i am leaving for vegas on tues., so maybe will try and have them meaured out there

you are not puttng that much weight on it so not sure if you will see a different the difference may be more mental than anything 1 strip on the top and one on the bottom shoudl balance it out though

well the sw def. does feel heavier...i don' think it is mental. I am sure I will see a difference because I put 4 strips of tape on each club head, and each strip was 4.5 inches long...how many strips would you consider significant if 4 is not enough? It certainly feels enough to me...we shall see when I finally get a chance to get out of this cold and hit a ball!
