Callaway X fairways or Fusion Fairways?

i have tried both.

fusion: has a very muted sound at impact. it sets up slightly closed and as a result of this, and probably the whippy NVS shaft, i hit it left alot. the swing weight feels pretty nice i.e not too heavy or light. it is pretty similar to the X off the deck, producing a mid-high trajectory in the 3 wood. i didn't try it off the tee because the tees at the range weren't low enough.

X and X-Tour: both of these clubs have a much louder impact sound than the fusion. don't let this put you off though, because it isn't really 'tinny' just more of a cracking sound similar to Callaway's of old. the standard X version is also slightly closed at address and produced a draw-hook tendency for me. the face feels much 'hotter' than the Fusion and also produces a more penetrating, mid-high trajectory.

the X-Tour sets up square and has a better feeling shaft IMO. it launches the ball lower than both the X and Fusion.

Conclusion: all the clubs are easy to hit off of the fairway but i think the X woods felt the best. the X-Tour is an absolute rocket and i would recommend not buying the 13 degree model if you hit your driver well because it will make it obsolete. then again if you can't hit the big dog, consider getting the 13 degree X-Tour. and finally, the X series of Woods are much cheaper than the Fusion.

in other words, go with the X.

I have both the Fusion and X Tour in 13* loft and stock shafts in stiff flex. The Fusion for me is easily 10-15 yards longer off the tee. Medium trajectory mostly due to it's light clubhead. It has a swing weight of D0. It's not as easy to hit off the deck for this reason but it is a missle launcher off the tee. The X Tour fairway is conversely easier to hit off the deck and gets the ball up in the air more off the tee. It is a heavier clubhead and has a higher swingweight but it is noticably shorter off the tee. I figure I only hit my 3 off the deck on 4 par 5's IF I have a good lie, ie fairway, sitting up in the rought, etc so I'm more interested in performance off the tee. For me the Fusion wins hands down. It's more forgiving than the X version as well.

They are both nice fw. It really is personal preference. Either one will more than fit the bill.

The X Tour is just awesome. As everyone has said, very hot and long and great off the deck. When teed up to the right height it is a bomber. I'm not a fan of the Fuji TP 26.3 however and am thinking of going with a shaft that has lower torque and a more active tip. Perhaps Accra Tour.
