igolf Caddie II for $99

My local sporting goods store is selling the igolf Neo and Caddie II for $99.97. I've gone through the forums to get some info if people love it or hate it. Kinda on the fence here, but for $99 you can't go wrong, right?

$99 is certainly a good deal but if the units are not accurate you have tossed the money down the can. I had a Neo and it never was very accurate and often way off. When that was happening iGolf was having some firmware issues. Perhaps that has been fixed since. Check in the Neo thread and see what is currently going on. I have moved on to another brand.

I've been using the Caddie II for a couple of years now-no problem with accuracy-provided the course is mapped correctly!

You'll need to subscribe to the iGolf service to download mapped courses-it's still a pretty good deal relative to other subscriptions, particularly since you "own" the course data once you download. I downloaded all the courses I felt I was ever likely to play in the first year and then did not re-up my subscription (at least until I decided to play some courses I hadn't downloaded, that is).

For $99 you can't go wrong-I prefer the Caddie II to the Neo as it holds more information and has more user programmable points-downside is it isn't as small but I leave mine on my push cart so it really doesn't matter

fwiw i think it is a decent price, and if you are looking for gps and dont mind no course layout, its likely the best deal at the moment. the only other competition i can think of in the category at the moment (price/features/size) is the izzo, so you might want to check them out too. there is a site that reviews them both [url="http://criticalgolf.com/golf-gps-reviews/"]http://criticalgolf.com/golf-gps-reviews/[/url] so maybe look there to compare them.
if you get one just remember prob most useful if you already know the course, less so if its new to you - just since no pictures of the holes. and sometimes the text labels for the traps and stuff might not be super clear.
for 99 i would say get it (unless you already have an iphone w gps, of course!)

I have had the Caddie II for a couple years. Nice unit, no subscription needed, and you can also map your own courses and back them up on your PC. Not sure if the Caddie II desktop software works on Macs. The only con I have about the unit is the grey scale display. At my age (57) my eye sight is not what it used to be, so I have problems seeing the screen at times. Also, have friends with skycaddys and they all have the same accuracy +- a couple yards. Most trust mine since I actually walked the course and correctly mapped it.
