PING Eye 2 Reshaft - any tips?

Want to put in Nippons

I have the ZZ Lite now....and while I know PINGs are "a little different " - what should I be mindful of? I am thinking about shafting beads in the epoxy b/c of the supposed looser fit. Anything else?
I'm thinking the Ping Eye 2s in BeCu with the Nippon 950 stiff - should be a great combo of high launch and spin for me.

Just remember they are taper tips. I would probably avoid the beads. Taper tips fit very snug in ping irons, and the beads will probably be of no value.

How about a tip on how NOT to burn the hosel.... :)

Um. Wow...I guess you used a torch?

 

You can trim a little off the tip to tighten the fit.

 

in the meantime do this to release the balance of the heads.

 

Buy an all metal shaft clamp...no rubber.

Wrap shaft in paper (for traction yo) and clamp in vise.

Heat hosel with torch, 20 secs max

Use 'Tha Foork" which looks like a giant wooden tuning fork and twist the head off. You can make THA FOORK with 3 pieces of 2x4 (1 shorty as a space, two longer ones on the outside) and some deck screws. It's not actually called Tha Foork btw....but that's what it looks like. I actually had a new store bought fork but liked my 2x4 one because I had written all sorts of nasty messages on it...mostly anti-Ping slogans.

I used a low heat gun for 20 mins and NA-DA! I'll look around for Tha Foork....or something similar. Thanks! T

It should take no more than 10 seconds with a torch to be able to twist the shafts out. Not sure what you did there?

If Ping installed the shaft, they can be very tight. Normally I torch, step on the head and twist but not with factory Ping. Need the clamp and and Foork. 2x4's are all you need along with 2 1/2" screws.....if you run by a new house construction, they'll have all sorts of remnants they'll give you.

 

In a pinch you can protect the head carefully and use a monkey wrench. Conversely you could irreversibly scar it so the Foork is mo' betta.
