MY NEW SWING ***UPDATED*** 27 DEC

Recommended Posts

Titleist woods
Hi guys,

Approximately 2 weeks ago I put up a thread about my bag and golfswing.

Last time you told me to:

Keep my head down, slow down my swing a little be more stable.

I think I have fixed some of the things.

Before: Ping Rapture V2 Hybrid 939h Regular shaft

After: Titleist 909D2 Diamana Blueboard 65 R-Flex

Titleist 909F2 Diamana Blueboard 75 R-Flex

What do you guys think?

What should I fix?

You can never tell, really, from a practice swing. We need to see you hit the ball. I mean, I have the perfect swing when I don't have the ball. Everybody does. I think there should be an "Air Swing" competition like they have for "Air Guitar" seeing how good we all are with our practice swings.

William - can you show us your swing from the front, also, please? And if you can go hit the ball somewhere, please do. If you have a PLASTIC PRACTICE ball - you should try to hit that, for now, at least you'll be properly at ground level. And wear your spikes.

Okay, I'll do that tomorrow morning. I think I have a couple of plastic balls in the garage.

As "Collo1992" wrote that I am swinging out - in. How can I fix this?

Something that helped me feel the in to out swing was to take practice swings with my driver or woods and watch the club "blur" through the impact zone. If you look closely you can see it going out to in. For me seeing was believing and from there was able to adjust my swing so I saw the in to out blur. For me it was delaying my shoulder turn slightly so that the club passsed across my body until my shoulders were square to closed at the bottom of my swing instead of my shoulders being wide open at the bottom of my swing.

Also don't forget to release your hands with the in to out swing. If you've been swinging out to in for a while you've probably trained your hands to "hold" the release so that the ball will slice back into the fairway. With an in to out swing your hands will need to roll over through impact ( think of making your forearms touch after impact). This will impart draw or hook spin to bring the ball back into the fairway or keep it straight depending on how severe you swing in to out.

Good luck!

Here you go:

It is from behind and in front. I am hitting a tiny little colorful ball. Pretty nice sound for a ball made of some kind foam or rubber cloth!?
so a push??? whats your distance like? and do you like your ball flight?
Yes, a push. My distance is like 255 yards. I think that I would gain a couple of yards if my ball flight was higher...

I just tried one new thing and it was to move my hips more back in the backswing and it looks good to me! What do you guys think??

your swing is getting better now just add a pause at the top just a split second to help your tempo and see howe that goes.

also id stick with a regular shaft going to a stiff is only going to cut back your distance and lower your ball flight. work with what you have got instead of paying dollars you dont need to.

I think pretty much everybody's in agreement - you're swinging way too hard and you keep falling off your swing at the end.

You remind me of:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Soba0sGGML8

What I noticed is that your hand, at address, is in the "Y" position. You need to be slightly more "forward-press" and more solid, as it were, in a straighter position =
Now - this is going to change your swing a little bit, so you're going to need to work on it (this is the best I could find):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy4VRWbJ8_g

You're hitting a Push because of the "Y" position, making you address the ball too far back in your stance. You need to be more straight armed with your left arm, and put the ball more to the inside of your left foot, and almost at the toe.

Try not to be so stiff - take the club back slower, in a bigger, WIDER "arc" - at least TRY to feel as if you're trying to sweep the club back in a bigger, wider arc.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-zz2_GYsFs
I like this example, because it just looks like he's taking it WIDE and AWAY from his body on the take-away = very wide, in fact.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzkpDt50KUQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZecViQxUwss
Very quiet, very STRAIGHT and very wide take-aways, rock solid.

Then, you need to practice with an Impact Bag (you can make your own with a laundry bag and some old clothes):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePerym7ksZM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2VKacwXr_w

I think you see why you might be pushing, is because you're falling back and are pushing the ball away, or up, from you.

Damn man, how can I thank you. You have done a great job. Now I have something to practise on. It must have taken a while to write all this down and find the links.

Yeah, that's right. But I HATE to see my ball to the right. I think right is the same thing as slice and slice is the same thing as backspin and backspin is the same thing as SHORT.

That's why I hate it, I am hunting that penetrating draw that I know that I can do. Long time ago I did.

Look William, I don't want to mess up your swing, but as you are well aware, there are basic things you can do with your swing to make the ball go right or left, up or down.
A little something that I tell people who already are decent ballstrikers like yourself - instead of worrying about coming over the top or coming inside-out, etc, is the following:

I have 2 basic things I do:

1. Move the ball back in your stance for every club than you are normally used to, but keeping your aim SQUARE to the target as normal, that is, your toes, your hips and your shoulders should be parallel with the ball to the target as usual = it helps to use alignment sticks for this.
Then, for the Driver, put the ball in the middle of your stance, and practice that and see what does without changing your swing. I think you will find that you're going to make adjustments, to hit this ball position, no matter what. Now that change might be your grip, or your turn, but mostly it's your down swing. Then do the same with the sand wedge = but put the sand wedge ball position at the right toe.
Your ball should have a low trajectory than usual, as you are hitting down on the ball, almost shutting the face down very flat and downwards, reducing the lofts. Most likely, you find yourself really trying hard to hang on to the club at impact and holding it through. No need to try to force a full swing out of this, just make sure you are making solid contact with a 1/2 swing, so you get the impact feel.

2A. For a Fade, practicing hitting every ball with your left foot back and right foot forward. That is: start by lining yourself up parallel as normal, with your toes and shoulders square: then, pull your left foot back about 6 inches (15 centimetres) or so, so that you are completely OPEN to target. Now swing as normal as you can, down the new line of your toes, but with the ball still aiming at the original parallel line to target = think Lee Trevino. But you MUST swing normal, don't change your swing to overly cut the ball, try to swing as normal down the line as possible, and let the natural cut motion of the body make the ball fade, don't give it any extra open-flips.
2B. For a Draw, do the exact opposite of the above: line up square, then bring your right foot back 6 inches, and swing normal down that square line = your club will naturally have to close face and come around the body, and your ball should draw.

Then, if you want to exaggerate, go ahead and exaggerate all of these and how that works for you, take it to the extreme = bring your foot back 12 inches (30cms) or so, and see what that does.

If you can grasp the principle of what these things do to your swing, balance, trajectory and direction, you should be able to teach yourself YOUR OWN OPTIMAL comfortable swing to make the ball go your way.

An excellent advice from one of the members in the above, you shouldn't worry too much about your "perfect" swing = practice making good contact and being able to hit the ball well, no matter how silly you look.

A lot of members are suggesting slowing the tempo of your backswing down. I cant speak for everyone but in my own golf swing when my instructor gives me advice i like to understand the reasoning behind it. The philosophy in "slowing down the backswing" relates to a book called Tour Tempo. If you do more research you will get a better idea of what the author was saying but basically a golf teacher timed the backswing and downswing of the best players in the world. What he found was that if the backswing was 3 seconds the downswing had to be 1 second in other words in a 3:1 ratio. The speed of your backswing is too fast for the downswing to catch up to, causing tempo problems.
There are a lot of conflicting swing ideas around the golfing community but one thing i can say is do not underestimate the power of the shaft in the golf swing. It absolutely has to load and unload on the golf ball. This is why the pros can effortlessly hit the ball miles. Lastly keep playing no matter how discouraged you get.

I will try to slow my backswing down, thanks for your tip. I will never stop golfin'. Golf is one of the biggest things in my life.

you need to make more of a lower body move rather than that armsy swing
focus on moving your chest as a whole back and through this will keep your shoulders and hips turning together properly

it also looks like you are sliding into the ball rather than
turning you need to rotate your body on an axis

the position of your back is completely different at the top of the swing than it is at adress you need to focus on maintaining the same spine angle throughout the swing so you will be able to have consistent impact

keep it smooth and stay solid over the ball
Is it better or worse with the hips rotation?
this would be my tip. Work on moving the ball from right to left. This will fix your hips. Really try to move that ball more than thirty yards. Aim way right and see how far left you can move the ball. Your distance will gain, your back swing will slow down, and you will be surprised what happens. If you work had at this, your tempo will slow down, and your swing speed will increase.
