Anyone here a memebr of BAGS? If not here is an explanation:

The Boston Amateur Golf Society, which was established in the spring of 1989, is the largest tournament golf club in New England. The Rhode Island Division began in 1992 and has grown to more than 300 members who are provided the opportunity to compete in over 60 events each year. 2006 will be our 15th season serving Rhode Island area golfers. B.A.G.S. is open to golfers of all abilities and is dedicated to providing a tournament setting for individuals who wish to compete in organized events. B.A.G.S. offers low gross and competition played off handicap - no handicap card is required to join. B.A.G.S. Members have reserved weekend and weekday tee times at most of the area's finest public and semi-private courses, plus some private clubs. If you like competing, or just want to meet and play with golfers of similar ability who thoroughly love the game, then B.A.G.S. is for you.



I have been playing with BAGS for a couple of years. I find it to enjoyable and intersting to see how you compete with other golfers in your handicap range. Currrently I am trying to be come elgible for some of the Local State Tourney's...Just need to lower the handicap by 1.1 strokes.

Is there a fee for BAGS? With a new family and a home, I can't get out much. But I've become addicted to this godforsaken sport and have few friends who actually play (thus I live at the driving range at Stowe Acres).

I'm glad I stumbled onto this, i've been looking for something like this around the area. I just moved from Illinois this year, and would love to get back into competitive golf

I'll look into it again. I looked at it 2yrs. ago and it seemed a bit pricey, plus I sucked then. Now I'm down to a single digit so wouldn't feel as awkward. If they rates are any better I might give it a shot. Seemed to me last time I'd be paying substantially more for a round than I would if I just played with friends at the same course. I would think it should be discounted rate if anything for guarunteeing the course a bunch of 4somes playing.

i played in the Western Mass. Amateur with a guy from the Boston Amateur society. He made 18 straight pars. By hole 12 he was deemed (by me) 'the mountain'. he gripped every club to the steel and low fades at everything. it was a sight to behold. Does anyone play MGA events here?

There are other groups around boston too. I am a member of the Tour group. www.golfthetour.com.

 

It is more expensive to play in one of their outings than to just pay greens fees and play, but they pay out prizes, and skins. They have special free tourneys, and a website to keep up with things.

 

I really enjoy my 6 to 10 rounds a year with these guys. Compettitive golf, and all in all a great way to play as a single.
