Switched to MP60s from MP33s

Noticed loss of distance...

I recently switched from MP-33s to the MP-60s and I have noticed that I am one club shorter (~10 yards) now. Has anyone had the same experience? To me, I feel like the MP-60s are at a heavier swingweight than the MP-33s, which might be causing me to lose some swing speed. Let me know what you guys think.

If both sets, MP-33's and MP-60's are standard lofts, the MP-60's should be a touch longer than the MP-33's. The PW in the MP-33's are 48*, where as the MP-60's PW is 47*.

Sorry I can't help you other than this, I've played the MP-33's but never hit the MP-60's. :)

A buddy of mine just made the same switch but he has gained a little distance with the switch. He changed shafts though and I think that might be the cause to the added distance he has gained.

the mp33's have a much lower ball flight throughout the set so if you're a high ball hitter that would make the mp33's longer. try dynamic gold X100, X200 or X300 if you want to lower your ball flight and give you a more penetrating launch. if what you say is true, that should give you some extra distance. but when tinkering with irons.. it's all about feel. the loss in distance is most likely caused by minor swing changes you're inadvertantly making due to the new sticks. make sure you're comfortable with the feel of your set... in reality distance is the last thing anyone should be worried about with irons.. it's ball flight and control... you got a club for every distance.. it can be tough on the ego but i prefer low scores.

one more possibly pointless piece of info... i switched my grad mp's a i have from s300 to x100 and gained about 8 yards per club. a portion of that may be that the s300's were just old but take it for what it's worth.

I always thought that the weaker the shaft the longer; the stiffer the shaft the more control. So why are people saying they hit an X-stiff farther than a stiff? Also, if I were to go to a Dynamic Golf S300 to a Dynamic Gold SL would I want a stiffer flex?

Like with so many other things, it depends.

I've hit off-the-rack drivers with 65g Stiff shafts that spin and balloon so much that I lose significant distance. If you have a faster swing speed and/or put a lot of spin on the ball, I believe that you can get more distance out of a heavier, stiffer or stiffer tipped shaft.

Same is true with irons. If a stiffer shaft gives you better launch conditions, you're going to realize more carry and/or total distance.
