Okay, I’m feeling a little better about myself now. Our fantasy picks are back on track and we are looking forward to the Byron Nelson Championship this weekend.

Last weekend at the Wachovia Championship was a pretty good one for SirPuttsAlot. I picked Jim Furyk who was the winner in a sudden death playoff over Trevor Immelman. Furyk won his eleventh PGA tournament on a very difficult golf course. It looks like he might be an early favorite for his second U.S. Open title in a few weeks. We also picked Vijay Singh and Stuart Appleby who both had good tournaments going until respective scores of 81 and 80 on the final day knocked them out of contention. My final pick was Ben Curtis. Curtis had a terrible first round but played solidly on day two to barely miss the cut.

This week we honor one of the games true gentlemen, Byron Nelson at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas. The wind is usually blowing in Texas so the winner is going to have to play patient and adjust his game to the weather. This tournament usually favors the straighter hitters rather than the long hitter.

First pick this week is Sergio Garcia. Garcia won this event two years ago and looks like he might be on the verge of breaking out again in 2006. Garcia plays well in the wind and if he can get his streaky putter working he will be a factor this week.

Second pick this week is Bo Van Pelt. Bo had a bit of a disappointing weekend at the Wachovia but still managed a tie for sixth. This is another one of the games good young talents and he is overdue for his first Tour victory. I expect he will have a good tournament this week.

Third pick this week is Ernie Els. No one has been tougher on Els this year than himself. He has shown flashes of brilliance but one or two holes seem to be his undoing every round. And, if Els needed any extra motivation to play well this week, dropping out of the Big Five might just provide it.

And for an underdog pick, how about Ryan Palmer. I’ve picked this kid before because his game really impresses me. If he is able to finish in the top 15 this week then I will be able to say ‘I told you so.’
