Anyone play Heather Glen and/or Oyster Bay recently?

My group is going in May 2010 to Myrtle Beach and we are torn between playing Heather Glen and Oyster Bay on our final day, get away day. Oyster is nearer to our rental house and makes for a clean getaway but we already have a tee time at Heather Glen as part of our package. We can, of course, make the change for a fee and are wondering if a) we shuld change to Oyster based on a side-by-side golf course comaprison and b) are either one of these courses not being kept up to high quality. I read some posts that suggest that Heather Glen is no longer really being cared for very well, and the greens especially are revealing that.

I played Heather Glenn about 2 years ago, and it was pretty good. But that amount of tme is like an eternity! I can give you some up to the minute stats on Oyster Bay next week. I am playing there on Monday afternoon the 22nd.

I've played them both. I prefer Oyster Bay which is much more scenic and memorable. However, there is nothing wrong with Heather Glen. It is a solid layout (27 holes). Within a day you will have plenty people who have recently plyed both courses give you a lot of feedback

I just played all 27 holes at Heather Glen on Sunday. I liked the Blue 9 the best, then the White, and the Red last. The Red 9 had a bunch of 90* doglegs and was shortish. I couldn't hit a lot of drivers which I do not like. The greens were in good shape. I liked the course pretty well. We played Kings North, MB National West, Shaftesbury Glenn, Heather, and The Dunes. The Dunes was by far my favorite, then Kings North. I just loved the Dunes, awesome track. The greens were lightening fast and firm.

I wasn't overly impressed with the Heather Glenn courses. The bunkers are deep. Most of the trouble is straight forward. It seems a dog leg can only go left. I couldn't believe how many dog legs bent left. I hit the ball right to left so I didn't mind that much, but I like a variety. I would like to have to bend it left to right every now and then.

I can't compare it to Oyster Bay as I have never played it. I would rate HG about a 7 out of 10, with Kings North being a 8.5 and The Dunes being a 9.3.

Awesome, thanks! We have The Dunes in our rotation this year. I am so pumped to play there. It is looking like we might move to OB. But I am pleased to hear the greens at HG are okay. Again, thanks for weighing in!

I played Oyster Bay a couple of months ago. It was a last minute add trying to get in 36 one day. Must admit, I was very surprised, and in a good way. Very nice golf course and views. It went from a semi-reluctant add because we were in Shallotte for the day to a must return course.

Sorry to say we only got 3 or 4 holes in at Oyster Bay. It absolutely poured when we hit the 4th tee. First three holes seemed pretty decent tho! they also aerated the greens I'm guessing about a month ago, so they were still a little bumpy. Probably be very good in the upcoming weeks if it dries out a bit.

Lenny....how was the trip overall? Turns out we cannot get the right tee time for OB so we are going to do it next year. Thanks for the report though. I'd love to hear the other courses you got out on and how they played. Thanks!

Had a blast overall, Monday rain not counting. With the exception of a supremely heavy fog in the am, Tuesday was sunny and warm, Legends was in pretty good condition. Looks like they did a lot of maintenance work in the weeks prior, so the the greens should be unreal in another few weeks. I would def go back there again. I love the trips I take to MB a few times a year, def one of the best golf destinations. We used to stay at Myrtlewood, which was nice, but have been staying at Tilghman for the last few years. Place is just sweeeeet! Have fun on your trip, let me know how it was.
